Position Description
The qualified candidate will be responsible for the Enterprise Operational Loss and Scenario Analysis Program/Process. In this capacity, this role will maintain / establish policy standards and oversee adherence to both the Standards and the Operational Risk Management Framework. The successful candidate must be capable of providing leadership, direction, and expertise in collaboration with business and functions to implement and maintain sound risk management practices.
Job Responsibilities
• Implement policy, framework, standards, procedures, and supporting technology for Operational Loss (both internal and external losses) and Scenario Analysis Programs.
• Establish and manage Operational Loss and Scenario Analysis governance process and routines to drive ongoing oversight and enforcement of standards across the enterprise to enable a strong risk management culture.
• Enhance Operational Loss reporting to incorporate external data sources (ORX, ALGO) and benchmarking into routine reporting, analysis and benchmarking.
• Provide leadership and subject matter expertise/training to all parties, as required, in support of compliance with Operational Loss (including Stress Testing Standards) and Scenario Analysis Standards, including full integration with other operational risk components including Issue Management, Risk Control Self-Assessment, Key Risk Indicators, and Operational Loss Events.
• Collaborate with First and Second Line Risk teams (including GRC sources) to ensure timely and accurate execution of the Operational Loss and Scenario Analysis processes including the escalation of exceptions.
• Analyze data captured, ensure thorough execution, documentation, and loop back for action as required.
• Maintain diligent follow up on activities with appropriate stakeholders including exception resolution and all applicable monthly reporting.
• Ensure all owned processes, standards, and procedures are kept current, consistent with documentation, reviewed periodically for compliance and assessed against the business need and risk appetite framework.
• Develop thematic reporting on internal and external Operational Loss Reporting.
• Provide subject matter expertise in Operational Loss improvement initiatives (Archer conversion, methodology/modeling approaches for Operational Loss forecasting for stress testing).
• Stay abreast of research and benchmarking to enhance, update and maintain sound Operational Risk Management practices in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry practice.
• Responsible for data quality checks to ensure data used is accurate / in line with expectations.
• Interpret data to draw meaningful conclusions and effectively communicate those conclusions via Powerpoint for Operational Risk Committee members.
Qualifications
• Primary:
◦ Bachelor's degree ; MBA or advanced degree preferred
◦ 6 + years relevant experience in Operational Risk Management within the financial services industry; including background in Operational Losses, loss forecasting/modeling, Scenario Analysis
◦ 2 + years' experience with GRC tools (e.g., OpenPages, Archer or equivalent experience)
◦ Experience with Operational Loss forecasting and Scenario Analysis
◦ Must be self-motivated, willing to take on initiative, and capable of working independently
◦ Strong influencing skills and ability to provide advice/direction to all levels of employees and management.
◦ Demonstrated ability to design, implement and manage the Operational Loss Program elements including automation of data capture and reconciliation processes
◦ Working knowledge of risk management components (e.g., policy/procedures, governance, reporting, risk control self-assessments, issue management) in a regulated environment
◦ Strong analytical, documentation and organization skills including orientation to details
◦ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
◦ Must demonstrate high level of professional skepticism
◦ Ability to multi-task, handle competing priorities and follow through on commitments
