RESPONSIBILITIES / COMPETENCIES include, but are not limited to:
• Strong conceptual understanding of general withholding tax concepts and rules and fundamental aspects of U.S. taxation of non-resident aliens (“NRAs”), including Qualified Intermediary Agreements, the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) regulations and Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs);
• Strong understanding of global market tax law and procedures as they relate to investment income flows, capital gains, and financial transactions;
• Familiarity with Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and other bi-lateral / multilateral tax information exchange regimes;
• Understanding of required U.S. and international tax documentation requirements (e.g., FATCA /NRA, Forms W-8 and W-9);
• Knowledge of European fund regimes (UCITs and non-UCITs);
• Experience with complex statutory and regulatory regimes;
• Provide local office support to the Client Service and Relationship Management teams for internal and external tax related inquiries.
• Extensive experience as a client facing resource, including building lasting relationships with clients and gaining client’s trust as a valued source of information. This position will interface with significant BBH clients;
• Participation in Client & Industry Meetings/Workshops to discuss specific tax issues or general overview of BBH tax services;
• Provide sales support to Global Marketing group by providing tax presentations, written responses to RFPs for prospects and due diligence/market survey questionnaires for existing clients;
• Very strong presentation skills, at least once a year BBH sponsors a series of Tax Seminars held in Europe for BBH clients. This position will play a major role in these presentations;
• Develop strong relationships within BBH, Client Service/Relationship Management and Operations groups;
• Conduct internal BBH training sessions to refresh tax knowledge of BBH staff and to prepare them for upcoming tax seasons and upcoming tax changes including new legislation such as the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act “FATCA” and Cost Basis Reporting.
• Conduct client training, as requested;
• Assist in the formulation of BBH “tax offerings” to attempt to minimize impact of tax rules to our clients;
• Ability to work independently and in “virtual team”
• Coordinate tax related administrative issues for assigned clients (i.e. preparation of year-end tasks, Client tax documentation, Client data clean-ups etc.).
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field; Master’s Degree, C.P.A., or J.D./L.L.M. preferred
• Minimum of 10 years Global Custody and/or international tax experience in the banking and funds sector
• Superior verbal presentation and writing skills
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
