Senior Risk Manager is responsible for managing multiple complex activities relating to risk management performance associated to all risk domains within a single business line. The individual will lead a team that works to identify, assess and action various risks throughout the assigned business line by executing defined multiple risk programs. The manager role will oversee the evaluation of processes, review control/ quality assurance reports and participate/ consult in initiatives and lead/ influence opportunities for improved efficiency, effectiveness and/or risk reduction. The individual may also identify opportunities for program innovation that should be validated by line management. This role will lead governance routines to report and escalate as necessary to executive management or corporate risk partners while driving to institutionalize a cultural awareness of risk management practices. The manager will also be an authoritative source of risk management knowledge who will coach his team and business partners to educate and counsel. This role will also interact with all lines of internal risk management peers including other first line of defense teams, corporate risk functions and internal audit.
Responsibilities
• Challenge risk teams to innovate and expand risk metric program to yield best portfolio coverage/ management or pursue KRI amendments through 2nd LOD or holding company peers.,
• This includes demonstrating the value added to the business management and will entail influencing multiple levels of management.
• Role may independently translate risk director's program into an executable version as necessary to fit the business product/ structure.
• Role is also expected to innovate the design of program elements into best execution models and collaborate with peers to standardize implementation.
• Successful influence toward quality improvement with business line executives is essential, which will also require coaching into their multiple risk teams.
• This role will require a high level of independent problem solving skills, with authority to approve or escalate unresolved conflicts.
• Role will interact with 2nd LOD and other division risk teams in such a way as to influence the lessons learned into an enterprise-wide best practice.
• Risk culture awareness is at a highly visible management layer and will lead organization into larger strategic plans/ directions.
• Role will counsel on the effectiveness of training and champion adjustments, which may also include external training sources.
• Risk Program Management: Consult or Direct the implementation of multiple risk programs within a single business line with a focus on increased efficiency, speed of delivery, and overall process innovation (moderately complex processes).
• Quality Assurance: Monitor program quality issues and consult on resolution steps. The role will ensure a consistent products are delivered and actions are tracked to completion.
• Risk Management Culture: Lead risk program management requirements with little supervision and provide independent review of risks and exposures.
• Risk Management Training / Coaching: Coach others on executing the practices learn from corporate training via varied risk disciplines and influence adoption through process/ routine adjustments.
• People Management: Responsible for all aspects of people management such as selection and hiring, performance management, coaching, recognition and retention.
• Develop high potential talent and establish succession plans for area. Proactive Risk Management: Participate and/or consult into risk management proactive exercises either sponsored by 2nd line of defense or within division's risk program.
• Relationship Management: Direct the complete risk management relationship, within a single business line, between other first line of defense risk teams as well as consulting teams to satisfy Internal Audit demands.
• Risk Management Governance: Lead a holistic risk based governance routine aligned to a single business unit and participate in other similar fist line of defense's governances.
• Metrics Management: Review analysis of metrics across multiple risk domains within a single business line to identify trends and consult on risk reducing actions or risk metric recalibrations
Qualifications
• At least 8-10 years previous experience, or demonstrate the ability to perform at proficient level of competence to meet duties.
• Minimum 3 years management experience.
• Experience in identifying high potential/high performing team members.
• Ability to motivate peers, subordinates and effectively partners with colleagues internally and within the industry.
• Effective decision making skills on complex matters; strong leadership and communication skills to effectively lead, influence and direct others,
