The Director of Application Development creates an overall application strategy to develop and implement appropriate information systems and solutions contributing to business growth.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
This key position partners with the Head of Infrastructure to align best in class infrastructure solutions with the application strategy and reports to the Chief Technology Officer.
• Lead Application Development through different stages namely Architectural Design; Specification Definition; Software Engineering including coding, testing, debugging; Implementation and Maintenance of the systems, while ensuring adherence to security policies and standards.
◦ Provide technical consultation in new systems development, new package system evaluations, and enhancement of existing systems and participating in structured walkthroughs and technical reviews.
◦ Create system designs to facilitate the inter-operability and integration of large-scale business systems.
◦ Evaluate the market for best in class commercial solutions for speed to market.
◦ Select appropriate tools to develop systems and software.
◦ Define appropriate technology standards and deployment strategies to increase organization’s maturity in tool use and agility.
• Lead Change Management including the coordination of cross-functional business resources, testing, training, communication, implementation and documentation.
◦ Champion new cultural philosophies, practices, and tools that increases an organization’s ability to deliver applications and services at high velocity.
◦ Lead design on given functional specifications, produce software deliverables and assist in post implementation support and enhancements.
◦ Lead the identification of software implementation and use best practices, document guidelines and procedures and train the organization on the software applications.
• Develop and follow Systems Development Life Cycle Methodologies (SDLC).
◦ Provide guidance and manage application development processes.
◦ Provide work effort estimation and project risks to the project manager on respective projects.
◦ Deploy and support vendor packaging, designing and building interface around it.
◦ Is accountable for the development, monitoring, and compliance to the relevant budget.
Required Skills:
• Experience developing solutions for large scale transaction systems.
• Expertise in Database Design/Analysis, Business Analysis, and Data Modeling.
• Programming languages, Database structures, Network and telecommunications knowledge, SDLC, Web development.
• Expertise in data transmission and messaging technologies for app/data integration.
• Experience with Mainframe technologies COBOL, CICS, JCL.
• Experience with z/OS, IMS, DB2, SQL databases.
• Experience with TCP/IP, XML, Web Services (SOAP/AM, REST, WSDL).
• Knowledge of service oriented concepts.
• Web-based programming, APIs, mobile technology, cloud, and security interface.
• Experience with implementation and use of modern website development workflows and development operations including all phases of web application development, testing, and deployment.
• Experience with one or more programming languages (C, C++, C#, Objective C, Java, JavaScript/jQuery, HTML 5, CSS), Server-side programming (ASP, JSP, PERL, PHP), cross technology platforms (.NET), JAMF and other related systems or applications.
• Experience with Configuration and Life Cycle Management.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Strong technical management skills.
Required Experience:
• B.S. in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business or related field and a minimum of 10 years general IT experience and 10 years of technical experience in architecture, systems analysis, programming and/or application development, design and integration.
• Minimum of 5 years experience leading and mentoring highly skilled technical professionals.
• One or more of the following certifications: Certified Business Operations Professional (CBOP), Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), Accredited Management Consultant (AMA), PMP, CBM, CIPM, CMC, CM, CMBA, CIM, CFCM, MKMP, MPM, MMC, P.Mgr or SCPM required.
