POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the development and execution of a communications strategy for the Retail Financial Services (RFS)business at TIAA. The role provides strategic communications counsel and execution on various communications programs across all audiences, including employee communications to engage the members of the RFS organization across a variety of channels (Intranet, eMail, Yammer, presentations, speeches, events, etc) as well as executive level communications (presentations, speeches, fact sheets, etc) to TIAA’s board, executive committee, regulators, and ratings agencies. The ability to translate business strategy into easy-to-understand communications across verbal, written, visual, video, etc will be crucial for the success of this role. The incumbent will manage a small team of communicators and creatives that provide presentation and communication support for RFS Leadership and is responsible for researching, writing and editing presentations for delivery to a variety of audiences.
This individual also plays a significant role in communications related to the evolution of RFS, collaborating across multiple audiences to enable the execution of strategic change for the business. This individual is responsible for producing materials that articulate the RFS vision and strategy, deliver company messages and further strategic goals of RFS. Audiences include employees, customers, Trustees, public officials, global business and academic leaders, and professional associations. Typical topic areas include corporate strategy, financial industry trends, corporate values, women and investing, customer-focused innovation, leadership and change, etc.
The role reports up to RFS Chief Administrative Officer and is a part of the larger Retail Strategy & Services team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Architect and execute a communications strategy for one of TIAA’s three major business lines (Retail Financial Services – RFS)
• Develop opportunities to leverage RFS leadership as visible ambassadors for the firm with key audiences
• Manage and direct a team that produces high quality creative content (presentations, illustrations, copy, video, speeches, etc) that engages critical audiences and supports the delivery of key business outcomes
• Collaborate on creative communications programs to engage employees in the RFS organization
• Execution must span the full audience and presentation experience – identification of presentation goals, gathering related content, data and materials, briefing materials, reviews, creative, AV and follow ups
• Obtain, review, synthesize, and compile information about complex customer, marketing, retirement and related topics that form the factual background for presentations and other communications
• Lead the development of presentations and other materials to assure that key messages are distributed through a variety of communication channels (e.g., video, intranet, etc.)
• Coordinate with senior company leaders and subject matter experts to assure that RFS messages are strategic and forward-looking, reflect relevant business and company knowledge, and are based on research and market intelligence
• Directly interact with the retail business line CEO on executive communications deliverables
• Plan, orchestrate, and execute internal events including the development of creative materials and logistical preparation
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Design, or a related field
• Minimum 8+ years of proven experience creating relevant and engaging presentations and content (portfolio requested) across a variety of channels and tools
• Demonstrated experience successfully managing creative professionals (i.e. graphic designers, copywriters, etc)
• Strong presence and executive communications skills, evidenced by experience working with senior executives (C-level) on a regular basis (3+ years)
• Superior story telling abilities – and demonstrated experience in telling a story through visual media (portfolio requested)
• 10% travel
Desired Qualifications:
• Graduate degree in Communications or Design
• Interest and ability to ‘roll up sleeves’ and produce communications deliverables, not simply direct other resources, as needed
• Ability to quickly grasp, distill and communicate complex subjects through words, PowerPoint presentations and other media
• Experience successfully navigating a large, matrixed organization
• Experience working in a creative or communications agency environment
• Financial Services knowledge and experience
• Experience working in a deadline-driven environment
