Job Description
The Product Owner (PO) is a key member of the business, who is the conduit to the technology team. The PO is responsible for writing user stories that align to the product features. They will ensure the pipeline (backlog) stays full and is prioritized. The Product Owner is internally focused: on the Agile team and implementation. The PO has a significant role in quality and is the only team member empowered to accept user stories as done. This role has significant relationships outside the local team, including working with the Product Manager to prepare for the Program Increment planning event.
Job Responsibilities:
• Creating user stories and acceptance criteria for the scrum team; ensuring user stories meet the definition of ready; updating user stories in Rally (agile management tool)
• Accountable for clarifying and/or reviewing user stories with the agile team in a timely fashion; empowered to make critical decisions quickly
• Managing features and stories from a customer perspective; identify, communicate and break down features to MVP
• Prioritizing the program and sprint backlogs continuously (prior to and during the backlog grooming sessions)
• Providing sign off to accept each user story
• Completing necessary documentation and engagement of teams such as Security, ARB, Legal, etc. for review and approval
• Readily available for team at all times and participates in all scrum ceremonies
• Empowered to make all critical decisions regarding functionality and priority in the sprint
• Collaborating with other Product Owners and/or Product Manager to uphold business priority and vision
• Providing periodic status updates to business stakeholders and upper management; is the point of contact for the agile team with the business and SMEs
• Promoting a risk-aware culture, ensuring efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes
Required Skills/ Experience:
• 2+ years experience as a product owner, business analyst or in a related field
• 3+ years professional work experience
• In-depth understanding of Agile methodologies; up-to-date on industry standards and best practices
• Experience with multiple full project lifecycles, from concept to delivery
• Able to build strong interpersonal relationships with multiple stakeholders
• Excellent communication and presentation skills including the ability to influence others
• Prior experience successfully managing cross-functional technology projects
• Strong project management and organizational skills
• Results-oriented with demonstrated ability to deliver results in a timely fashion
• Ability to apply creative and strategic solutions to solve business challenges, to develop new ideas and to gain buy-in
• Ability to show initiative with minimal guidance
• Creative thinker willing to consider various solutions to a problem
• Flexibility to handle rapid change and multiple tasks at once
• Precise attention to detail
• SAFe certification preferred
