POSITION SUMMARY:
The analyst position resides within the Investment Management Group of the TIAA, FSB and will be primarily responsible for the search, selection, and ongoing monitoring of third-party investment strategies, including mutual funds, separate accounts, and ETFs. The role will primarily focus on evaluating investment strategies across equity and fixed income asset classes, and will provide investment recommendations for use across several advisory platforms, including Managed Accounts, TIAA Life, and TIAA Endowment & Philanthropic Services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Contribute to the design and implementation of a third-party investment product due diligence process. Emphasis on executing a rigorous and consistent process that is auditable and supports feedback on investment decisions.
• Maintain research coverage on equity and fixed income strategies.
• Employ quantitative and qualitative disciplines to identify and evaluate investment strategies that are part of a diversified portfolio designed to address specific client needs or desired investment outcomes.
• Manage full lifecycle investment manager search and selection processes with limited supervision, formulating detailed investment recommendation reports, and present rationale to internal investment committees.
• Monitor assigned managers/strategies and the overall manager/strategy lineup, and identify gaps in current strategy lineup.
• Coordinate with the Portfolio Construction Team to develop and support the asset allocation framework in the managed account programs utilizing third-party investment products as building blocks.
• Partner with multiple business lines to identify investment content needs and identify targeted solutions that meet their strategic initiative and priorities.
• Promote the investment product research function by communicating the group’s investment philosophy, process, and viewpoint during interactions with client-facing colleagues.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline, finance, or accounting
• 5+ years of relevant investment experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, or postgraduate degree is preferred.
• At least 7 years of experience in third party investment product research. Deep understanding of the asset management industry, both equities and fixed income, including knowledge of mutual fund, separate account, and ETF operations.
• Experience evaluating non-traditional investment strategies, including various alternative investments.
• Solid analytical skills. Experience using multifactor risk models and attribution systems is preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills (expect to provide samples). Ability to communicate investment related concepts and viewpoints to internal investment committees, as well as client facing colleagues.
• Solid organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects among varying constituencies.
• Strong relationship management skills for both external and internal relationships.
• Proficiency with the following software applications: Morningstar Direct, Bloomberg, and Factset.
