The Fraud Analyst is primarily responsible for BOKF’s success in reducing check, deposit and debit card fraud. This position interprets analysis reports and inquires into suspect reports designed to safeguard the bank’s clients and the corporation as it relates to the overall effort to control fraud losses as a result of deposit, debit card and check fraud. This position is also responsible for identifying kiting suspect accounts most likely to expose the Bank to financial risk. Analyst reacts with appropriate and aggressive manner to minimize losses.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Researches and verifies counterfeit/suspect items. Analyzes suspect check for discrepancies, style, texture, print, size, perforation, alterations, bad MICR line; second presentation endorsement; compares signature card to check signature; determines disposition of the item.
2. Reviews daily suspect item report; determines reason for flagged item by interpreting suspect item report; determines correct procedure to follow.
3. Analyzes data from the kiting analysis system, evaluating uncollected funds, and use of uncollected funds, in order to determine suspect accounts; researches microfilm and images to determine appropriate action; communicates and presents plan of action to Account Managers; closes account or places hold on account and completes ‘Reg CC Hold Form;’ provides customer with a copy of the Bank’s action; ensures certified notification is sent to suspect.
4. Monitors and detects fraud activity on Visa debit cards and ATM cards; analyzes and verifies large dollar deposits made through the ATM machines; performs maintenance on the Loss Control Intranet site related to debit card calls, initiates contact with internal; external customers and assists in fraud investigations.
5. Communicates need for a flagged item review with branch personnel and bank customer for required approval process; verifies availability of funds with other financial institutions in the case of a suspect deposit. Evaluates suspect deposit activity based on deposit activity, bank relationship and account history.
6. Determines which suspect items need to be returned on a stringent timeline determined under UCC Regulation 4A.
7. Performs system maintenance; reviews list of suspended accounts; maintains list of actions to be taken for an account.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
• Thorough knowledge of check processing and float control policies and procedures
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of bank operations policies and procedures
• Thorough knowledge of Federal regulations relating to fraudulent checks and placement of holds (Reg. CC & E)
• Thorough knowledge of parts of a check and characteristics of fraudulent items
• Working knowledge of PC including fraud detection systems, spreadsheet and word processing software
• Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including interpersonal skills
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex information
This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of an Associate’s Degree in a Business related field and 3-5 years experience in bank operations or equivalent work related experience of 6-8 years.
