To act as client-facing investment experts (i.e., “client PMs”) who can assist Sales in providing deeper investment expertise to clients (product deep-dives, investment thought leadership, portfolio construction, etc.).
As part of a its Divisional Strategy Refresh, FAS is in the process of expanding the investment support it offers to financial advisors. As part of this effort, we are creating a new investment support team comprised of S4 Investment consultants to bring investment expertise and technical support to our advisor clients. The investment consultant will be a senior, client-facing investment expert (i.e., “client PMs”) who can assist Sales in providing deeper investment expertise to clients (product deep-dives, investment thought leadership, portfolio construction, etc.).
Our ideal candidate would be an “Investment Specialist” with strong investment acumen and client facing skills. This role will also present a great opportunity for a high performing, high potential crewmember who is entrepreneurial and eager to join a team in the early stages of formation. The candidate would also have the ability to build areas of expertise in one or more of the following areas: fixed income, factors, equity, and ETFs . This person will report to the head of FAS Strategy and Development in the near term.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Serves as the senior investment consultant for financial advisory clients by providing client facing support on products and investment thought leadership. Works closely with sales to provide investment support and guidance; is regularly called upon to participate in meetings with financial advisory clients. Provides industry and channel level trends and insights to Sales and clients. Collaborates with colleagues in Portfolio Review Department, Investment Strategy Group, and other areas of investment expertise across the enterprise.
2. Advanced knowledge of Vanguard's investment product line-up and in-depth understanding of the principles of asset management, investment markets, and portfolio construction. Manages and understands FAS client's needs by framing the benefits of our service and approach and pro-actively fulfilling those needs in a way that consistently exceeds client expectations. Continues (on an ongoing basis) to enhance skills.
3. Provides high level of expertise across multiple asset classes (e.g., ETF, factors, fixed income, active equity). Serves as the divisional expert on aligned asset class and builds the appropriate enterprise network (i.e., connections with IMG & PRD). Keeps abreast of investment process and performance of existing Vanguard funds as well as market conditions and developments. Works with colleagues in Portfolio Review Department to review Vanguard active fund performance and external advisor relationships. Maintains deep awareness of the industry and the competition. Responds to investment-related questions from FAS clients
4. Partners with relevant resources and stakeholders to build analysis and content for client meetings. Acts as a FAS investment team liaison to senior management and other areas of Vanguard.
5. Contributes to the development of Sales acumen by leading Sales trainings on investment topics. In addition, serves as a leader, mentor, role model, and technical resource to FAS Investment Analysts.
6. Develops and maintains key internal stakeholder relationships across the organization including, business leadership broadly, capital markets, investment teams, sales teams, marketing, and legal.
7. Participates in corporate, departmental and business special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree required. MBA, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). Minimum of eight years business experience in investment management and/or client facing advisory positions
• Willingness to travel 60% of the time
• Advanced knowledge of Vanguard's investment product line-up, in-depth understanding of the principles of asset management and investment markets and economy, and portfolio construction principles.
• Proven experience with external clients and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
• Series 7 and 63 or the ability to obtain within department guidelines.
