The Credit Risk Portfolio Manager would have substantive bank underwriting experience in Real Estate lending including REITs, Private Developers & Corporate Owners, Construction Lending as well as LIHTC and Affordable Housing. The candidate should be very well versed in NYC RE and have some familiarity with other metro areas such as DC & Boston. It would be expected that such a candidate would also be familiar with various regulatory requirements such as HVCRE, CCAR, etc. This position would report to the Credit Division Head of Real Estate.
The CPM is responsible for executing the credit strategy of the Firm. The CPM is ultimately responsible for the credit quality of the portfolios, review and approval of credit requests and accurate and timely ratings incorporating market based monitoring. The CPM will have Level 1 credit authority*. The incumbent and his/her team will coordinate the BNY Mellon effort to ensure that the risk/reward balance is consistent with the company’s strategy and is responsive to the client. The CPM manages the process, and develops a team of professionals that include Lenders, Analysts and Portfolio Administrators to achieve the above objectives. The position requires strong and decisive credit judgment based in part on insightful incorporation of market based tools/resources. The CPM facilitates the setting/recommendation of optimal customer credit exposure targets for approval based on collaborative interaction with the customer, relationship managers and BNY Mellon product areas. The CPM is responsible for the timely and accurate rating of each borrower in the portfolio and must promptly escalate deteriorating credit situations. The CPM is expected to work closely with his/her counterparts in market risk, global markets counterparty risk, Operational Credit Risk and the relevant line of business (LOB) Chief Risk Officers (CROs) to ensure that all client related risks are understood and that the relevant risk groups are apprised of relevant risk issues as they arise.
• Handling credit requests and needs of customers both internally and externally to determine appropriate level of credit extension.
• As noted in the summary job description, these positions interact with the senior client facing officers in both LOBs and GCM. The breadth of these positions is enterprise wide.
• These positions have a high degree of interaction with salespeople in the LOBs and in Global Client Management. Review and approval of credit requests and accurate and timely ratings.
• Internal and external presentation, communications and organizational skills are a prerequisite.
Qualifications
Modified based upon local regulations/requirements. Bachelor s degree or related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Formal credit training preferred. MBA preferred. Family Requirements: 12-15 years of total work experience preferred. Prior experience/background in credit risk preferred. In addition, may require the following experience/skills based on primary duties: Discipline Requirements: Credit Analysis & Approval/Portfolio Management: Formal credit training preferred. Ability to assist with the management of diverse lending, operating products, attendant risk, foreclosure, bankruptcy and/or OREO assets. Operational Credit Risk: Formal credit training preferred. Experience as an underwriter and assisting with the management of rapid-turnaround, intraday funds transfers and approvals. Country Risk: Formal credit training preferred. Experience with borrower rating systems and tracking methodologies, and basic knowledge of fiscal and financial condition indicators. Credit Administration: Experience as an underwriter and familiarity with credit administration systems typically used by financial institutions. Community Reinvestment Act/Appraisal: Expert-level familiarity with the Community Reinvestment Act and extensive experience conducting complex real estate appraisals.
