Position summary:
Our Inside Property Claims department is seeking an Associate Adjuster to join our growing team in our Worcester, MA office.
This is a Full-time Non-Exempt role.
Position Overview/Summary:
Responsible for the investigation, negotiation and resolution of claims in accordance with policy provisions, best practices and jurisdictional requirements. Includes the input of claim data and guiding insureds and claimants through the claim process and options.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
• Must have or secure and maintain appropriate states adjuster license (s) and continuing education credits
• Works within defined limits and authority on assignments of minimal complexity
• Uses discretion and independent judgment in claim handling
• Possesses basic functional knowledge and skills reflective of study and/or on job development
• Analyzes, evaluates and negotiates claims of minimal complexity
• Identifies possibly suspicious claims
• Phone contact with customers is required to confirm cause, coverage, liability and damages
• Settlement and reserving authority levels are low and supervisory guidance is provided as appropriate
• Ongoing training may be necessary
• May be part of a formal training program
• Take recorded statements
• May work with the Special Investigations Unit to resolve and negotiate settlement
• May be required to have and maintain sufficient home-based internet connection
Essential Skills and Experience:
• Associate Degree required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Typically has 1 to 3 years experience
• Possesses strong customer focus, service skills and behaviors
• Hasgood judgment and makes decisions in an informed, confident and timely manner
• Operates with latitude for un-reviewed action or decision
• Agile and adapts to new or different changing situations, requirements or priorities
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Embraces (new) technology, proficient using MS Word and Excel and have good typing ability
• Maintains constructive working relationships despite differing perspectives
• Ability to negotiate skillfully in difficult situations with both internal and external groups
• Demonstrates ability to win concessions without damaging relationships
• Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills. Promotes and facilitates free and open communication
• Understanding of applicable statutes, regulations and case law
• Thinks critically and anticipates, recognizes, identifies and develops solutions to problems in a timely manner
• Cultivates an environment of teamwork and collaboration
Physical demands & work environment:
• Ability to use a personal computer and other standard office equipment
• Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods
• Required to work on-site as needed
• Ability to travel as necessary
• Ability to work hours in excess of 40 hours per week
• Ability to work in a fast paced, changing or stressful environment
• Ability to perform work in a noisy/loud work environment
