ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Seeking a seasoned communications professional to lead/manage the media outreach, branding strategy, and communications support for the client.
• This position requires eight or more years of experience in strategic communications, marketing/branding, media strategy, stakeholder engagement, and other related government communications.
• The communications expert will be responsible for long-term strategic visioning for Client, strategizing to improve communication and outreach with Congress and the White House, in addition to overseeing day-to-day communication projects and activities, ensuring high-quality deliverables that meet the client’s objectives.
• Need an experienced communications expert who can lead and facilitate an effort that focusses on providing Public Affairs and lobbying-type of support to help the office identify and work with the right external stakeholders within the Administration, Capitol Hill, and the trade community to increase the brand and exposure of the Office.
• Establish relationships with key Public Affairs officials to plan and coordinate Client outreach strategy and branding campaign.
• Develop, execute and manage execution of strategic communications plans and roadmaps, as well as supporting outreach campaign plans.
• Translate Client policy and technical subjects into consumer-friendly content.
• Recommend and implement initiatives that will inform and/or change public perception of the Client.
• Develop and/or oversee the creation of clear, concise, professional reports to inform contract deliverables.
• Work closely with account leadership and client staff on client management, practice development, and business development.
• Establish performance measurements to support client in measuring communication success and failures; oversee the tracking and analysis of communication outcomes/impacts and performance metrics.
• Coordinate with government communications office.
• Develop complete communications plans and strategies for the client.
• Act as a primary resource for issue-oriented writing.
• Translate policy and legislation into consumer-friendly content.
• Recommend and implement initiatives that will inform and/or change public perception of the client.
• Edit team-wide materials for tone, voice, strategy and style
• Work independently and manage team setting.
• Coordinate with graphic designer on complex designs
• Guide and oversee writing of outreach information to include emails, fact sheets, articles, blogs, website copy and presentations.
• Assist in managing one or two subcontractors.
• Perform engagement management responsibilities, including performance reviews, task delegation, project scheduling, project financials, quality review and client management.
• Meet or exceed sales targets for new and follow-on work.
• Manage business development activities, such as proposals, capture, account teams, whitepapers, conferences, and/or other thought leadership materials.
• Meet or exceed targeted billing hours (utilization).
• Act as performance manager (coach) for up to four coachees outside of engagement responsibilities.
• Interview campus and/or experienced candidates.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in communications, strategic communications or a related field (strategic communications/marketing management, writing).
• Analytical, research, organizational, and project management skills.
• Experience producing weekly communication products and/or collateral.
• Strong technical/copy editing is required.
• Proficient use of the suite of Microsoft Office products.
• Experience working with DHS, CBP, or another DHS Component
• Ability to obtain and maintain certain job-related certifications if no job-related advanced degrees.
• U.S. citizenship may be required. Ability to work in the United States indefinitely required.
• Travel may be required.
• Coach and mentor junior staff members.
• Ability to work overtime required on occasion.
• Ability to sit in an office environment for long periods of time.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
• Ability to obtain and maintain firm independence and abide by firm ethics requirements.
• Meet or exceed continuing professional education (CPE) requirements.
