The company
With approximately $5 trillion in total assets under management and 15,000 employees across 16 global locations, Vanguard is one of the world’s largest and most respected investment management firms. Since the business launched in 1975, Vanguard has stood out as a different kind of investment firm. It was founded on a simple but revolutionary idea—that a mutual fund company should be managed in the sole interest of its fund shareholders. Founder John Clifton “Jack” Bogle structured Vanguard as a client-owned mutual fund company with no outside owners seeking profits. This framework has enabled Vanguard’s leadership team and crew to continue to put its clients first in all of its decisions.
Today, Vanguard is widely recognized as a leader in low-cost investing and a steadfast advocate for the interests of all investors. Its corporate structure is still unique among mutual fund providers, with shareholders as the ultimate owners, receiving net profits in the form of lower costs. As millions of investors and advisors have come to trust Vanguard, its brand remains an apt metaphor for a company with an unwavering commitment to its mission.
As the firm continues to expand into international markets, Vanguard offers an ever-wider range of investment products and services for individuals, institutions, and financial advisors. Vanguard is led by an experienced and stable management team. Evidence of this is that the firm has had just four CEOs in nearly four decades, with new CEO Tim Buckley leading the firm and former CEO F. William McNabb remaining as Chairman through the transition. Because Vanguard can't be acquired by an outside entity, its clients can be confident that the firm will remain the same unique company, focused solely on their interests in the years ahead.
