The Technology Internal Communications Mgr manages the development, implementation, and coordination of internal and external strategic Technology communications strategies, with the goal of establishing and maintaining a positive image of the Technology organization with all associates, partners and participants. Develops and implements strategies and programs to communicate Technology’s business objectives, culture and values to its employees. This position oversees the alignment of communications plans with the strategic direction and positions of the Great-West Financial and Empower organizations.
Primary Responsibilities
1. In partnership with the Technology leadership team, develops, produces and executes communication plans for enterprise technology initiatives. This includes writing, editing and reviewing a range of communications such as internal corporate announcements, informational brochures, videos, and other communications across a variety of platforms and various audiences.
2. Responsible for providing communications advice and support to technology leaders, other business leaders and departments in the organization on communication approaches and messaging or issues related to the company's technology function and strategy.
3. Develops and helps drive lines of communication within the technology organization among leaders, managers and employees. May develop programs to increase awareness and knowledge of technology initiatives, activities, products or programs that are related to or affect the IT function.
4. May offer constructive feedback and quality assurance on projects for technology leadership.
5. Consult and provide communications strategy for sensitive messages. This includes developing message strategy, obtaining consensus, drafting, and modifying, and counseling and assisting others related to best practices and approaches with communications.
6. Develops short- and long-term communication objectives. Interacts with business partners and Technology leaders to develop and implement integrated communication plans.
7. Create and facilitate effective communication channels that provide open, direct, and respectful forums to manage expectations, operational priorities, quality and timeline objectives, and conflict resolution.
8. Develop and deliver progress reports tailored for Board, Executive, Management, Operational, and Other audiences that provide transparency on status, priorities, staffing, delivery risks, and decision points.
9. Ensures all communications support Technology goals and objectives ensuring all employees understand the technology strategies, priorities and culture.
Qualifications
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English or Communications, or equivalent experience. Background in technology helpful.
Preferred qualifications:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to advocate for ideas and influence others. Knowledge of AP style preferred.
• 5-7+ years of experience in internal and/or external communications position.
• Experience or understanding of basic IT/Systems language and work is ideal.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
• Must be highly motivated, detail- and deadline-oriented, adaptable and creative.
• Excellent interpersonal skills in initiating and managing communication within and between Operational, Management, and Executive levels of the organization.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage many in-flight deliverables at once on tight deadlines.
Normal Office Working Conditions
Will make independent decisions and partner with senior leaders across Technology and the Business.
Will interact internally with senior leaders inclusive of Head of Technology on a daily basis.
