JOB SUMMARY:
The Actuarial Associate works closely with Actuarial Managers/Director in completing actuarial valuations/studies and in overseeing/coordinating the work of assigned analysts and support staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepares actuarial analysis for review by Actuarial Managers/Director
• Prepares actuarial valuations for the funding or financial reporting of pension and other postemployment benefit programs
• Prepares actuarial analysis of projected impact of changes in program benefits, assumptions and/or funding policy
• Provides first level review of work prepared by Actuarial Analysts and other support staff
• Assist Actuarial Managers/Director on development and/or maintenance of models and actuarial procedures
• Trains new Actuarial Analysts on data processing and basic actuarial analysis
• Coordinates execution of assigned client projects from start to finish, serving as a key client contact; coordinating as needed with Managers/Director
• Ensures data used by analysts in studies is complete, has been reviewed and amended for inconsistencies, ambiguities and missing information
• Reviews and/or assists in drafting of data requests to be sent by Actuarial Analysts to send to clients for gathering data to prepare valuations
• Clarifies, with clients and other actuarial staff, the specifics of the analysis scope
• Prepares and/or presents results of actuarial analysis to clients on request
• Provides peer review of actuarial studies prepared by other Actuarial Associates/Managers/Director
• Manages client projects from start to finish, being the principal client contact
• Reviews data for inconsistencies, ambiguities and missing information
• Prepares thorough and appropriate data requests to send to clients for gathering data to prepare valuations
• Experience in reviewing and coordinating the work of others is beneficial
• Completes special projects at the request of executive management
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
• Four year degree in Math, Actuarial Science or related field
• Associateship in the Society of Actuaries
• Advanced degree or graduate work not required, but helpful
EXPERIENCE:
• Five years of related experience in pension and/or OPEB actuarial services, with recent public pension experience a plus
• Two years of experience/responsibility in independently supervising work projects
• At least one area of special training
