POSITION: Research Analyst
LOCATION: East Bay
BUSINESS FUNCTION: Americas Research
REPORTING TO: Research Manager, East Bay
The role:
The Research Analyst position will help to guide all aspects of the local industrial and economic market research program and output. This position will build and continue to elevate a best-in-class research program that differentiates JLL and drives a competitive advantage in the marketplace through market expertise, analysis and insight. This team member will enhance our offerings in the areas of business intelligence, data visualization, and graphical output.
The analyst will have primary responsibility for collecting and analyzing data, creating client-facing content and presenting it in a compelling way. They will work with the research manager to interpret client needs, find the information that addresses the needs, and present the information in the best format possible. They will assist in tracking and analyzing all aspects of the local commercial real estate industrial and economic market and will leverage that knowledge proactively for research products, client projects and business development efforts.
This position will have direct responsibility for the East Bay and North Bay industrial market and will work closely with JLL research leadership in the Walnut Creek office, as well as colleagues throughout the Americas research group.
Key responsibilities:
• Implement the overall industrial research plan for the East Bay and North Bay markets that align with local business objectives and the Americas research platform
• Create compelling visual communications, integrating JLL’s proprietary research data, for the purposes of business development, external distribution, and client requests
• Produce interactive maps, reports, and presentations that bring research content and real estate data to life
• Collaborate at a high level with local market leadership and sales force to execute the research plan
• Maintain intimate and extensive knowledge of the macro and micro factors affecting the marketplace and proactively position research to leverage this knowledge for the business and for clients
• Expand and improve the research platform, program, output that demonstrates the firm’s market expertise
• Contribute to and execute the production of all local office research reports and collateral
• Develop and share best practice standards for the region and the Americas Research Group
• Develop strong relationships with internal and external clients and facilitate the use of research as a differentiator including being personally client-facing and externally focused on new business efforts
• Work with marketing teams and business leaders to position research to contribute to all business development efforts
Specific responsibilities:
• Manage the statistical and analytical program for the East Bay industrial market
• Write, edit and organize production of all local market industrial research reports and contributions to national reports
• Develop and implement a plan and timeline for covering specific, current geographic and analytical gaps in industrial and economic research coverage
• Develop white paper reports on key trends, issues affecting the markets, economy, region and key industry sectors
• Present regularly to internal teams and clients and present compelling trend and analysis
• Analyze and report on the local and regional economy with respect to employment statistics, major company activity, industry trends and demographics that affect the local real estate market
• Contribute to special research reports and white papers on unique market economic or industry trends
Experience and qualifications:
• Up to two years in commercial real estate research, economic and demographic analysis or closely related field
• Command of local markets and business, with good understanding of macro trends and historical perspective
• High level analytical skills and problem solving ability and written and oral communication skills
• Experience managing workload, report productions and programs
• Ability to effectively and professionally meet client expectations and positively represent the firm
• Ability to multi-task, succeed under pressure and effectively manage time and workload
• Proactive and strategic thinking and ability to align research with the business and innovate research output
• Command of requisite technology including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word and database systems
• Familiar with visualization tools (such as Tableau) and basic presentation and mapping skills (GIS programs and Google Earth is a plus)
• Basic knowledge of Java, SQL, and HTML is a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in business, economics or related field required
• Motivated and self-starting with a desire to succeed and contribute to the success of a team
• A desire to work within a diverse, collaborative, and driven professional environment
