Description
Reviews and underwrites residential mortgage loan applications for Conforming, Investor, and modifications. Ensures lending standards are upheld and investor guidelines are maintained. Informs processors, loan officers and management of findings and credit decisions. Manages assigned pipeline to meet time to close expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Analyzes credit, income, tax returns, assets and appraisals to determine borrower’s credit worthiness and ability to repay per the terms defined by the bank and/or investor.
2. Proposes alternatives to loan requests that do not meet underwriting guidelines and seeks approval when necessary.
3. Mitigates risk by conducting thorough and prudent reviews of loan files. Validates loan application and supporting documentation. Dispositions loans within underwriting authority limits.
4. Presents loans with recommendations to Underwriter II or Vice President of Operations when loan limit exceeds the underwriter’s authority.
5. Clears conditions identified through the underwriting process and prepares file for closing.
6. Informs processors, mortgage loan officers, closers and management of changes, status updates, findings and credit decisions.
7. Manages assigned pipeline; Disposition loans within 24-48 hours of receipt and timely resolves conditions.
8. Completes, passes and maintains an up to date status for all positional and company required compliance and regulatory courses by assigned due date(s).
9. Participates in special projects and assignments and performs other duties as assigned.

This position requires compliance with the S.A.F.E Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 and all related regulations. Ongoing employment is contingent upon meeting all such requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School diploma or equivalent and 3-5 years of current underwriting experience or equivalent relevant experience in residential mortgage lending.
• Working knowledge of residential loan operations, systems, documentation & regulatory requirements.
• Expertise with mortgage lending software applications and strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system & Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel and Outlook.
• Ability to read and listen, understand and communicate information and ideas in a clear and understandable manner, both orally and in writing with business unit management and staff, state and federal regulators and significant business partners.
• Strong ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports and legal documents; effectively researches, analyzes and evaluates information to make decisions, solve problems and achieve goals.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
CONTROL RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES: Become knowledgeable regarding the department's internal controls as outlined in the policies and procedures and comply with all control requirements.
COMPLIANCE: Ability to comprehend and adhere to Federal and State banking regulations, including compliance with the Bank’s Bank Secrecy Act/Anti Money Laundering (BSA/AML) program. Follows all Company policies and procedures, and successfully participates in regulatory and Company training requirements via multiple and variable delivery methods.
SAFETY, SECURITY and CONFIDENTIALITY: This position requires keeping complete confidentiality of all customer transactions and information, and paying close attention to security within and around the bank's premises at all times.
