Job Description
As a member of the Federal Tax Services (FTS) group, you will be among specialists focusing on a variety of federal tax issues with a strong concentration in the areas of accounting methods and inventories.
Members of the group have extensive experience in the areas of accounting method and period changes, income deferral opportunities, deduction acceleration opportunities, installment sales, like-kind exchanges, LIFO inventory implementations and enhancements, application of the uniform capitalization rules, accounting for intangibles, capitalization versus expense issues, depreciation, accounting for environmental costs, long-term contract accounting, cost recovery issues, meals and entertainment expenses, and other miscellaneous tax issues.
Position/Program Requirements
Minimum Years of Experience: 5
Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Certification(s) Required: CPA, Enrolled Agent or Member of the Bar
Degree(s) Preferred: Juris Doctorate with Accounting or Tax, or Master's degree in Taxation
Knowledge Preferred:
Thorough knowledge of accounting methods and period changes, income deferral opportunities, deduction acceleration opportunities, LIFO inventory implementation and enhancements, application of the uniform capitalization rules, accounting for intangibles, capitalization versus expense issues, depreciation, accounting for environmental costs, long-term contract accounting, cost recovery issues, general tax accounting issues, identify and implement tax accounting planning opportunities, and perform accounting method and inventory studies.
Considerable knowledge on the timing of income and deductions in connection with lawsuit damages, environmental remediation costs and recoveries, insurance reimbursements and recoveries, and net operating losses.
Skills Preferred:
Comprehensive technical skills, including tax code and its application, legislative and regulatory requirements, interface with IRS Chief Counsel and participate in the AICPA's Tax Accounting Technical Resource Panel task forces to submit comment letters to the IRS and Treasury Department.
