Description
Assurant has an exciting opportunity for an Accountant!
The position reports to the Accounting Manager and works closely with Enterprise Accounting Services and a variety of other internal departments including Finance, Marketing and Business Development. The person must be diligent and self-motivated with attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
• Performing weekly and/or monthly balancing of interfaces
• Complete month-end accounting tasks necessary to ensure accurate and timely financial results, including preparing journal entries and performing balance sheet account reconciliations
• Research and resolve discrepancies related to general ledger account reconciliations, recommend process changes to avoid on-going issues
• Prepare specified management financial reports
• Assist with financial audits, as well as, quarterly and annual tax filings
• Responsible for performing and documenting accounting processes and procedures
Qualifications
Required skills/experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• 2+ yrs. experience in General Ledger Accounting
• Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access)
• Advanced Excel skills (PivotTable, VLookup formula, importing data, using linked data, SUMIF formulas)

• Strong financial system experience, encompassing spreadsheet, queries, data manipulation and reconciliation, and month-end accounting close process
• Understands and able to apply GAAP
• Ability to clearly and objectively communicate the work that is done and the resulting findings
• Possess strong research skills to access relevant guidance or other information and can understand and apply it
• Provide work product with a high degree of accuracy
• Ability to understand assigned tasks, why they are performed, and how they fit into the bigger picture. This includes assessing whether a journal entry makes sense, whether reconciling differences are appropriate, and being able to explain the assessment
• Ability to appropriately prioritize tasks and plan work load to meet all deadlines for scheduled and Ad-hoc requests
• Ability to adapt to technological changes and advancements
