Job Description
Position Description
The ER Consultant will serve as a trusted partner to assigned HR Directors and Business Partners for all employee relations matters. He or she will provide direction and support for sensitive matters regarding matters of policy, disciplinary matters, terminations, reorganizations, and other sensitive employee issues, and will also be responsible for leading all investigations within his/her client group.
Job Responsibilities
• Conduct all ethics hotline and open door investigations involving claims of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation, as well as complex allegations related to violations of company policies and procedures.
• Utilize sound judgement and knowledge of investigative techniques to establish an investigation plan and prepare investigative summaries that document findings.
• Partner with HR Business Partners and leaders to address and develop strategic plans for employee relations issues
• Provide professional and confidential HR advice to Business Partners on potentially sensitive matters, and serve as central point of contact for policy interpretation, disciplinary actions and terminations.
• Act as an escalation point for issues that cannot be solved within the business unit or for issues that have broader reaching employee relations implications
• Work closely with HR Business Partners in reorganizations and reductions in force.
• Prepare statistical reports for HR Business Partners and make recommendations for action where needed
• Create/modify programs that support a positive employee relations culture at Ally
• Monitor and understand employee relations trends, including new developments in employment, employee rights, human rights, federal and state employment regulations, arbitration and applicable court decisions and settlement patterns.
• Research best practices, analyze trends and provide recommendations for policy development
• Maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations
• Keep current on all regulatory and compliance changes and maintains state and federal compliance documentation
• Assist in the development, implementation and delivery of compliance related training
• Develop, maintain and manage relationships with HR Business Partners and HR Directors
• Work closely with in-house employment counsel
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree required; relevant Master's degree a plus
• 7+ years of relevant experience in employee relations, including investigations, issue resolution, terminations, severance, disciplinary action, policy interpretation and reductions in force.
• Comprehensive knowledge of US employment laws, rules and regulations
• Proven experience in all areas of conducting investigations, including fact finding, evidence preservation, interviewing, determining statement credibility, and report preparation
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex information, conduct research, and manage highly confidential and time sensitive matters
• Ability to travel two times a month for investigations as necessary
• Exceptional verbal, written, listening, and understanding skills
• Strong influencing and consulting skills
• Critical and strategic thinking skills and ability to translate strategy into action
• Project management skills
• Adaptability and ability to work with ambiguity
• Ability to work in a matrixed environment while demonstrating teamwork and collaboration
