POSITION SUMMARY:
TIAA is seeking an Assistant Creative Director for the User Experience (UX) team located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Assistant Creative Director will work with the Creative Director (CD) to help manage the creative output of the User Experience (UX) Design Team, with oversight of the creative team and creative processes. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated their own talent for creating high quality visual designs for web-based applications, and will have day-to-day experience managing projects and output for a team of at least five people, taking direction from the CD to implement department initiatives.
As part of the UX design team, the successful candidate will collaborate with the extended UX leadership team, UX Leads and Audience Managers to assist in the development of visual design strategy, aligning with overall brand, marketing and business strategies. He/she will also mentor UX visual designers to craft highly effective and engaging experiences that meet the goals of our users and partners and will also function as a hands-on designer on projects as needed.
Additional responsibilities include leading the development of visual design creative initiatives, creating best practices for the internal design process, including making recommendations for improved communication, deliverables and technologies. The ACD will also serve as the UX Design Site Manager for our team in Charlotte.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• With the UX Lead and Creative Director, help ensure that design deliverables are on time, professional, engaging, persuasive and supported by a sound rationale.
• Deliver integrated, brand-appropriate creative solutions across all digital delivery platforms.
• Contribute to a better creative product and clearly communicate direction to UX team and partners.
• Provide supervision and development opportunities for associates through thoughtful assignment of duties, coaching, mentoring, training, and building a team-based work environment. This will include establishing performance expectations and conducting regular performance evaluations, providing recognition and rewards, coaching for success and continuous improvement.
• Assists the CD in managing agency partner relationships and performance, working with agencies to develop key initiatives, communicating and ensuring brand standards are maintained, and aligning digital design strategy with overall brand strategy.
• Collaborate with extended user experience leadership team and partners to develop vision for product innovative designs, and proactive manage resources for efficient, effective delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, Visual Communications, Digital Design, Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science or similar field. A Master’s Degree a plus.
• Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience managing a UI/UX/CX team of five or more, especially in the financial services or product development & eCommerce/mobile/advertising markets.
• Minimum 7 years of experience with mobile app and/or mobile web and/or responsive design is a must. Proven track record of innovative and intuitive customer-centric product designs.
• Minimum 10 years of experience and mastery of industry standard tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Invision).
• Front-end development experience and/or strong understanding of code.
• Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping and the ability to design in code.
• Experience managing multi-site, multi-time zone teams is essential.
• Online portfolio displaying a firm understanding of user-centered design processes and information architecture principles is a must.
• Ability to travel 20% of the time to New York City, Boston, and Denver will be required.
Preferred:
• Strong organizational and analytical skills, plus excellent communications skills, demonstrating the ability to speak with both technical and lay audiences across different levels of understanding.
• Experience designing enterprise products with complex business logic is a plus.
• Familiarity with technical and financial services relationships and terminology preferred.
