Job Description
Everest Insurance Company, a member of Everest Re Group, Ltd., has an opportunity available for an International Claims Manager or Director (depending upon experience) to join our Claims Department, at our headquarters in Liberty Corner, New Jersey. The candidate should possess the ability to oversee multi-national claims arising in Canada involving a broad spectrum of mainstream and complex property, inland marine, general liability casualty claims as well as some financial lines. More particularly, the ideal candidate will be able to analyze insurance coverage and resolve claims according Best Practices and within stated authority limits and applicable legal and regulatory requirements. This position will report to the Vice Presidents of Property, Casualty and Financial Lines.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Supporting and counseling the in-country Everest Canada claims team which is responsible for analysis of coverage, liability and damages for property, inland marine, general liability as well as some financial lines claims that are handled both directly and through a third party administrator.
• Knowledge of the litigation and trial process as well as management of same, including management of outside counsel
• Preparation of case summary reports related to matters of significant reserve and trial activity
• Timely and appropriate setting of case reserves
• Development and execution of claim strategies as well as resolution strategies
• Negotiation and resolution of cases
• Attend trials and mediations
• Third party administrator claims oversight and management
• Ability to recognize complex jurisdictional, linguistic, cultural issues that can arise when managing claims in a foreign location.
• Ability to work with underwriters supporting policy construction and drafting, reporting claim trends, data analysis, and risk assessments
• Extensive communication with insureds, brokers, reinsurers, actuaries, and business unit contacts
• Attend client meetings and industry functions to support retention and development of client relationships and business
Work Experience & Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of property casualty claims handling experience as well as some experience with financial lines claim types (D&O and E&O). Prior management experience and as well as multi-national and Canadian claims experience are requirements.

• In-depth knowledge of the litigation, arbitration, and trial process
• Currently holds or readily can obtain all required adjuster licenses
• Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment
• Knowledge of claims handling or insurance legal statutes and procedures
• Ability to identify and use relevant data and metrics to best manage claims
• Collaborative mind-set and willingness to work with people outside immediate reporting hierarchy to improve processes and generate optimal departmental efficiency
• Ability to and willingness to present to senior management and other group settings
• Ability to influence others and resolve complex, disputed claims
• Multi-national and/or TPA oversight claims experience are a plus
• JD and/or experience practicing law are a plus
• Regular travel to Toronto (once a month or more frequently as needed), other occasional international travel may be required.
