Job Description
OppenheimerFund’s Risk Management Group (RMG) performs the firm’s risk management activities and quantitative analysis functions. RMG’s principal responsibility is to ensure that risks are fully understood by our portfolio managers and consistent with our clients’ objectives; and to know the risks by thoroughly understanding the investments and providing the best analytics and tools. RMG team members will be charged with solving real world problems in the investment management process working under the direction of senior risk managers.
Job Purpose/Background:
The RMG team provides an independent and trusted perspective to portfolio managers and senior management on risk modeling, markets and portfolio construction. The successful candidate will be responsible for the risk management of investment portfolios and the development of analytical tools for an illiquid, private credit alternatives strategy. They will also have significant exposure to senior management across the organization. The principal responsibilities include:
• Working with senior risk managers to help ensure that the risks are fully understood by Portfolio Management and are consistent with our client's objectives and risk constraints.
• Supporting the creation, production and delivery of supervisory and managerial reports
• Performing ad-hoc reporting and analyses to help address real-time demands of senior members of the team.
• Applying statistical techniques to analyze portfolio risk taking and relevant trends related to credit markets
• Monitoring credit market activity and individual portfolio company financials
• Analyzing fund performance and risk relative to risk factors, benchmarks and peers
• Employing a creative approach to evolving risk monitoring and modeling techniques
Qualifications
Knowledge/Experience:
Candidates need to have exceptional technical skills as well as the ability to build relationships across all areas of the business. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, a strong work ethic and ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment are other important characteristics. Candidates are expected to:
• Grad student entering final year of study in in mathematics, finance, economics, econometrics or other relevant discipline
• Demonstrate passion for financial markets, risk management and be inquisitive about the application of analytical techniques to understand them
• Display strong written/oral communication and outstanding interpersonal skills
• Have experience with Bloomberg, Excel, VBA, SQL with proficiency
• Be highly organized and proactively respond to the needs of the business, often under tight deadlines
• Demonstrate a detailed understanding of credit risk modeling techniques and have the ability to critique different approaches
• Previous work experience in the financial services industry preferred but not required; previous investment risk management experience with credit assets preferred but not required
