Zurich North America is currently looking for a VP and Senior Actuary Manager, to work out of our North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois. This role is part of the Finance & Actuarial organization and manages a team of Reserving Actuaries with responsibility for reserves related to our Alternative Markets and Specialty lines of business. This role interacts closely with our leadership team and drives operational initiatives across the Actuarial Reserving function.
As a manager, you will utilize your coaching and leadership skills as well as your insurance industry and actuarial knowledge to lead a team of actuaries in increasing the organization’s efficiency, effectiveness and technical capabilities. The team collaborates with various areas in the organization including Finance, Business Unit Leadership, Information Technology and Technical Underwriting.
The VP and Senior Actuary Manager will be responsible for:
• Leading an Actuarial team that is responsible for Reserving for our Alternative Markets and Specialty lines of business
• Communicate results of analysis to stakeholders, including Group Leadership
• Direct and Collaborate with the Technical Execution group as needed, which may involve: Reserve Analysis, Portfolio Management, Financial Planning and Forecasting
• Leading projects and initiatives to improve actuarial efficiencies
• Monthly reporting and executive communication
• Providing leadership on processes, as well as off-cycle improvement projects
• Communicating information and results to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences across the organization, include senior leadership
• Working on Ad hoc requests
• Managing and coaching a team of actuarial professional employees, provide regular, actionable coaching and feedback to employees to review progress, recognize accomplishments, support development and/or improve performance
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics/Statistics or Actuarial Sciences and 10 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area
AND
• Experience leading cross-functional teams
• People management skills
• Knowledge of insurance industry
• ACAS
Preferred Qualifications:
• FCAS
• 10 or more years of experience in applying actuarial principals with experience in multiple actuarial disciplines (pricing, reserving, reinsurance) and in multiple business units
• Experience with predictive modeling methods and concepts
• Solid project management and organizational skills to work on multiple priorities, establish and meet deadlines
• Excellent communication skills in order to partner cross functionally within the organization
• Knowledge and skills reflective of a senior practitioner who has progressed within Actuarial positions of increasing responsibility
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite and knowledge of statistical analysis software
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
