POSITION SUMMARY:
Enterprise Risk Management works in partnership with other business and support areas to protect TIAA’s mission, financial strength and reputation through the proactive management of risk and to establish and promote a culture that supports intelligent risk taking and risk-based decision making.
This leader, reporting to the Head of Retail and Investment Product Risk Management, will be responsible for leading the holistic risk management function for a portfolio of products and solutions that are manufactured and distributed to TIAA and third party clients. This oversight responsibility includes product, strategy, operational, supplier, and investment (both credit and market) risk for these products and solutions as well as associated functional and operational units.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Successfully drive a culture of risk management within the first line business leaders of the Digital Group and the Retail Investment Products Group (RIPG) LOB and drive an environment of proactive risk and control accountability by business leaders, functions, and teams.
• Leverage and adapt enterprise risk standards to the identification, measurement, monitoring and management of risk
• Assist in identifying emerging risks and trends (both internal and external) that could have a negative impact on the ability to achieve the goals and objectives both the Digital and RIPG businesses and their partners across Retail Financial Services (RFS).
• Review business plans and challenge assumptions to support the reasonableness of the plans and to fit with corporate strategy.
• Help identify and monitor key risk and performance indicators and metrics, and monitor the effectiveness of risk mitigation programs and controls. Implement programs and limits to support risk-taking that is in line with corporate standards and the prescribed risk appetite.
• Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures that are in line with corporate guidelines.
• Drive continuous improvement of risk review and governance processes across RFS and ensure effective line of sight at both RFS governance committees as well as Enterprise Risk and Compliance reviews as necessary.
• Support the implementation and ongoing use of Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) tools within RFS used by both the business and ERM. Support the implementation of risk and control self-assessment and related processes and the optimization of the control environment.
• Oversee, challenge, and/or approve risk taking by the LOB where appropriate or where risk-taking is outside of appetite.
• Support and represent leaders on specified risk committees and provide risk and performance reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Knowledge of at least one of the following; retirement products, brokerage, digital, marketing or financial planning is required.
• Risk management experience in investment, distribution, and/or product development/management environments.
• Understanding the end to end product lifecycle of brokerage and IRA is required.
• Experience working with at least one of the following control partners, legal, compliance or audit is required.
Preferred
• Master’s degree is preferred.
• Experience with Archer is strongly preferred.
