Job Summary
Prepares and maintains financial accounting records, statements and reports towards month end, quarter end and year end accounting close process applying the Internal Control Framework (ICF) and SOX requirements. Analyzes and interprets, financial data, measuring profitability; researches accounting issues providing solutions; prepares various internal management and external regulatory reports as assigned; participates on cross-functional teams, delivering on and tracking progress on strategic and tactical initiatives Performs quality reviews of work and and projects as assigned. Develops and maintains technical expertise in IFRS (and applicable GAAP) financial reporting for the Life Insurance Company, as well as monitoring and implementing needed changes
Essential Job Functions
• 35% Validates the accuracy of various monthly/quarterly/yearly accounting processes including financial statements, exhibits, schedules and note disclosures for GAAP, IFRS , budget variance reporting, key performance indicators (KPI) metric reports on financial and operational results. Perform analysis, recommends necessary adjustments, and communicates trends.
• 20% Performs research and analyzes various financial reporting, tax, regulatory guidelines and requirements delivering a summary of key issues along with recommendations to management.
• 15% Participate on Finance and cross functional teams to deliver on strategic initiatives such as process improvements, systems development, accounting guidance implementation.
• 15% Prepares ad-hoc reports, analysis, and conducts special projects as necessary. Analyzes existing workflow, ensuring efficient use of resources and participates in implementation of process improvement projects.
• 10% Works with internal and external auditors, and state examiners. Researches and facilitates resolution of issues that arise.
• 5% Provides guidance to fellow staff members regarding department standards and procedures.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
Experience Requirements
Minimum of 3 years of prior Accounting or Finance experience.
Special Skills
• Strong Excel skills, including experience with advanced functions such as pivot tables and v-lookups
• Experience with SAP and Access preferred
• Excellent communication skills; ability to summarize business results in a manner tailored to the audience
• Experience with IFRS preferred
