The cornerstone of Morgan Stanley’s risk management philosophy is the execution of risk-adjusted returns through prudent risk-taking that protects Morgan Stanley’s capital base and franchise. Risk Management protects the firm from exposure to losses resulting from defaults by our lending and trading counterparties.
Background on the Team
Morgan Stanley's Firm Risk Management (FRM) division is seeking a strong candidate with demonstrated experience in financial and resource management. Qualified individuals will help drive financial efficiency through transparent and timely financial reporting of the FRM division’s operating costs and resource needs. Candidates will have significant exposure to the FRM senior management team, providing frequent presentations on operating costs and resource needs.
The role will reside within the COO function, which covers a broad array of areas in addition to financial and resource management. Candidates will have the opportunity to work on a variety of cross-risk projects and initiatives, partnering with key stakeholders to ensure proper execution.
The applicant should have a minimum of five years of experience at a financial institution, audit firm, or consulting firm, preferably in a financial or resource management function. Prior risk management experience is a strong plus. Work history should demonstrate attention to detail and strong analytical and spreadsheet skills.
Title and pay will be consistent with years of experience and prior work history.
Responsibilities
• Oversee production of the monthly expense reporting package and present findings to senior management, including risks and opportunities to achieving budget targets
• Partner with the key stakeholders from across Risk and the Finance Controllers Group to develop the annual headcount and expense budget to support key regulatory deliverables and initiatives
• Develop metrics and KPIs in partnership with functional and regional Risk teams to measure performance across the organization
• Take a lead role in supporting the execution of a variety of ad-hoc cross-risk projects and initiatives at the request of senior management
Qualifications
Skills required (essential)
• 5-7 years of experience, preferably in financial or resource management
• Ability to build strong working relationships with key business partners
• Displayed ability to influence stakeholders and drive projects through to completion
• Attention to detail and ability to prioritize projects and workload
• Advance working knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word
• Ability to analyze and synthesize data
• Self-motivator and team player who brings a “can-do” approach
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
• Excellent academic background and grades
• Desire to learn about risk management in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
