Job Description:
The WNTO Intern will work with Grant Thornton professionals to help establish a statistical practice to work across all of our service lines. The WNTO intern is responsible for statistical sampling and estimation, primarily in tax, as well as statistical calculations, modeling, and machine learning. The intern will also be involved with building high quality, efficient computational tools, templates, and procedures that are easily leveraged for similar work moving forward. The intern will be responsible for many sampling and estimation calculations that are mostly stratified samples, but could also include pops, multi-stage sampling, rare events, internal controls, discovery sampling, combinatorics/hypergeometric probabilities with complex sample designs, and both design and model based estimation methods.
Responsibilities vary with the nature of the engagement. Daily activities may range from consulting in teleconferences, performing calculations in SAS, teaming to solve statistical problems on applied problems, reporting and documenting complex calculations to be followed by a layperson, as well as seeking out and acting on marketing opportunities to further grow our practice. The intern will work closely with staff, senior associates, managers, senior managers, and partners on all phases of the project.
Qualifications
Job Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, or similar highly quantitative degree (within 12 months of full-time employment) and have a major and overall minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0. The willingness and ability to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites are also required. We prefer excellent communication skills, outstanding analytical skills, an ability to handle multiple priorities and simultaneous projects, strong computer skills, and the ability to work in a team environment. A strong working knowledge of SAS is also preferred.
Training:
Grant Thornton provides training programs related to an individual’s job responsibilities. The training program for an intern is condensed and mostly on the job training as it relates to the length and responsibilities of the internship.
