Business Overview:
The Intermediate Holding Company (“IHC”) program structured at the U.S. level across poles of activities of BNP Paribas provides guidance, supports the analysis, impact assessment and drives adjustments of the U.S. platform’s operating model due to the drastic changes introduced by the Enhanced Prudential Standards (“EPS”) for Foreign Banking Organizations (“FBOs”) finalized by the Federal Reserve in February 2014, implementing Section 165 of U.S. Dodd-Frank Act.
Within the Finance Performance Management Team, the role covers:
1. The preparation of Senior Executive management reports for the Americas (e.g. Board report, Monthly ExCo report, Strategic Planning, Town halls, ad-hoc presentation to the senior management of the Bank.);
2. The coordination of Regional budget and forecast budget presentations for the Region on various scopes including Divisions (e.g. Corporate & Institutional Banking) or legal group views (e.g. Group of entities under the Intermediate Holding Company);
3. The preparation of performance analysis linking actual performance to the overall business strategy.
The role involves a deep understanding of the business activity of BNP Paribas in the Region together with a solid knowledge of accounting reporting requirements. The business strategy is periodically subject to updates and adjustments from the Senior Leadership of the Bank which often requires support to correctly capture and message it in key presentations.
The last dimension of the role is related to ongoing projects to improve and secure better some aspects of the Performance Management closing process. This includes assistance in (i) the formulation of a tactical and strategic solution for IHC Board Reporting and Strategic Planning; (ii) further development of the reporting tool (Hyperion Planning) partnering with IT and other finance teams to build out the reporting framework needed to
Responsibilities:
4. Performance Management reporting:
◦ Assist in the preparation of Senior Executive management reports, including:
• CIB Americas Reporting, based on data reconciled with Financial Accounting and in full adherence with the Group and CIB methodologies
• Local Reporting and Board package preparation, based on data reconciled with Financial Accounting and in full adherence with the Local Reporting guidelines (US GAAP)
• Quarterly CIB/Asset Management US GAAP versus CIB/ Asset Management IFRS reconciliation.
◦ Perform analysis and gather comments on actuals (vs. budget, vs. N-1 actuals, vs. business plan, etc.) for the concerned perimeters from various finance teams (Client Service Teams, Financial Accounting, BWC FP&A…)
• Revenues (managed revenues, non-managed revenues, client contributions, inter-company…) [for Group & CIB] or Net Revenues (including Transfer Pricing) [for US GAAP reporting]
• Direct managed and allocated costs [for Group & CIB] or Non-interest Expenses [for US GAAP reporting]
• Other miscellaneous information: Cost of Risk, CIB of Tomorrow savings, etc.
• Key Metrics: Cost-to-Income ratio, Economic Value Creation, Return on Equity, Return on Assets…
• Headcount
• Balance Sheet
• RWA and related Capital Ratios
◦ Support key clients, including the Finance Regulatory team, CCAR team, Governance team which complete various reports and inquiries for and on the US holding company (IHC) and other scopes
◦ Ensure:
# Timely distribution / submission of accurate reports
# Operation, integrity, and control of all reporting tools and processes under the teams’ responsibility
# Complete and adequate controls on Management reporting production process and related documentation (define controls required on internal management reporting so that issues are detected, analyzed, resolved with both corrective and preventive actions defined)
1. Budgeting, forecasting and Strategic Planning:
◦ Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts for CIB Americas & the US holding company (IHC)
◦ Prepare ad hoc simulations and analysis to support Businesses and Functions throughout the budget and forecast process
◦ Consolidate and report official budget/forecast numbers to the Regional Management and/or Head Office through regional budget presentations
◦ Deliver a clear and effective presentation (using PowerPoint), highlighting key messages and developing a strong story line to support the financial information. Provide clear and detailed explanation on the Strategy of the region and Financials evolution.
◦ Assist and coordinate the reconciliation process between CCAR Baseline and IHC Strategic Planning with CCAR team and Client Service Teams.
1. Projects:
• Ensure active contribution to projects involving Performance Management, including but not limited to:
◦ Automation projects to help automate IHC/CUSO related reports, with the formulation of a tactical and strategic solution for IHC Board Reporting and Strategic Planning
◦ Further develop the reporting tool (Hyperion Planning) partnering with IT and other finance teams to build out the reporting framework needed to ensure accuracy of the underlying management reports, as well as supporting the many projects the team contributes.
◦ Improvement and documentation of data referential
◦ Improvement in production, control procedures, and workflow organization to increase the team’s efficiency and effectiveness
◦ Harmonization of reports across the Platform
1. Controls & Organization:
• Ensure adequate archiving and tracking of official reporting produced
• Contribute to the Finance operational permanent control framework (e.g. perform controls over the PM reporting, contribute to the Finance Internal Control Committee, report incident)
• Document and keep procedures for the production of all reporting tasks up‐to‐date
• Update and maintain static data ﴾i.e. tables﴿ for which the team is responsible
• Support the team’s tools / databases, as well as its reporting templates / models and macros
• Participate in the upgrades / version releases of respective reporting tools, as well as system amendments / enhancements required to facilitate new / modified reporting requirements. In connection with this effort, assist in user acceptance testing and trouble‐shooting after deployment.
Minimum Required Qualifications
• 7 – 10 years of relevant industry experience, preferably working within a Bank and within an IHC-capacity.
• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
• Strong communication/presentation skills in conveying key messages and story lines to senior management through presentations (usually in PowerPoint)
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and Microsoft office tools (PowerPoint, Access mainly)
• Knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS / US GAAP) and business concepts related to Banking industry
• Experience supporting projects particularly linked to report building and data base management and related management reporting building skills
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of Financial reporting systems and database reporting tools such as Hyperion and preferably with BNP Paribas management reporting systems and tools (Vinci, Paradigm, etc.)
• Knowledge of CIB activities
• Knowledge of BNP Paribas internal accounting rules and principles
