Job Description
The Product Operations Data Team is responsible for collaborating with clients to enable them to make objective customer-focused decisions by providing analytical insight and ensuring trusted, actionable data. The team is responsible for analytics, as well as serving in a consultant role to teams across Product Operations responding to ad hoc requests, providing implementation metrics, performance scorecards and other analytic visualization reporting.
Job Summary
This role is a key developer of the data strategy in Product Operations and is accountable for building alignment with key stakeholders. The Director’s team will provide functional and technical strategies that enable business decisions to be made using quality, actionable data, improved data visualization and client-based, self-serving approaches to data. The Director is accountable for the oversight of the data strategy department and related performance objectives, including developing team members to view and use data as a strategic asset to enhance the organization’s ability to visualize, measure and analyze the business. A team of managers will report directly to the Director to determine the optimal portfolio of projects and process improvements to enable information/data to support Allstate’s strategies and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
• Creates the vision and strategy for business intelligence solutions, data creation, and data stewardship for Product Operations guided by long term objectives and business requirements
• Translates vision and strategies into roadmaps and projects or solutions that will provide trusted, secure, high quality, and actionable data
• Builds alignment for strategies across the organization, fostering relationships, collaborating with other business units and engaging resources across departments in order to improve the effectiveness of business decisions
• Leads multiple, complex projects to support the needs of a variety of internal customers and external recipients for modeling, analytics, business intelligence, and data stewardship
• Influences broader organizational and technological change to facilitate easier adoption and integration of product and analytic initiatives
• Determines optimal program organization and delivery approach, assists in managing budget, coordinating resources and overseeing development of integrated project plans
• Creates strategies and/or solutions that enhance the Enterprise’s ability to deliver high-quality, actionable data to clients
• Effectively communicates Allstate’s vision and strategy
• Serves as subject-matter expert and consultant on product-related data issues inside and outside the department
• Oversees the prioritization of work across major focus areas to ensure appropriate focus on highest value projects
• Leads and develops team managers and/or team leads building skill sets, such as business analytics, visualization, project management, stewardship, and programming
• Performs as an expert internally and externally in subject matter area and becomes well versed in the interrelationships among organizational areas
• Communicates clearly to a variety of audiences with widely differing knowledge of technical concepts
Job Qualifications
• Minimum 12 years’ experience in Data Analytics, strategy, or other relevant area
• Minimum 5+ years’ experience managing teams of technical and/or analytic nature
• Bachelors in quantitative field, such as Math, Actuarial Science, Economics, or Computer Science required. Masters/MBA preferred
• Extensive product, price, risk management and insurance regulation knowledge with working knowledge of product lines, rate plans, and product offerings. Experience with personal lines insurance is a plus
• Familiarity with the capabilities of key analytic applications (Hadoop, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services, SQL, PL/SQL) and data structure and management techniques (Dimensional Modeling, R, Python, Spark, Tableau, Cloudera or other Hadoop distributions)
• Ability to leverage external industry relationships to represent the Enterprise appropriately
• Independently determines approach to managing teams and daily operations
• Ability to accomplish results through the management of a team of professional employees and/or managers
• Ability to acquire knowledge of Enterprise-wide functional strategy
• Demonstrated understanding of emerging business trends and ability to integrate into team strategic objectives with direction
