Duff & Phelps, the premier valuation and corporate finance advisor, is seeking a Vice President of Global Communications based in either its New York, NY or Morristown, NJ office. The position will report to the firm’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. The prospective candidate should have a minimum of 12 years of experience working in a communications capacity in complex financial or professional services with at least 8 years in a management role. Preference given to candidates with a range of internal, external and brand communication experience.
This individual will lead internal and external communications. The individual will serve as a strategic partner to Duff & Phelps internal firm services leaders and its global marketing team. This is a hands-on role requiring a candidate who can execute across the respective areas of responsibility while managing diverse internal and external resources.
Responsibilities:
Internal Communications:
• Establishes a plan to engage employees through a cadence of communications.
• Creates and implements a plan to establish the firm’s intranet as the go-to site for employee education and news. This must include an editorial calendar with specific recurring milestones for new content development, with a focus on stories and information that increase employee understanding of the full suite of Duff & Phelps services.
• Builds and maintains constructive partnerships with internal stakeholders and advises them on internal communication initiatives and channels: written, video, webcasts, town hall meetings, etc.
• Key leader and contributor on corporate social responsibility efforts.
• Leader for internal communication efforts surrounding company acquisitions.
• Partners closely with Human Capital and Recruiting to achieve alignment on employee and recruitment messaging, employee-value proposition, and other HR-related communications.
• Partners closely with HR to oversee employee engagement measurement and build a strategy that leverages employee survey data to ensure a consistent feedback loop between management and employees.
• Anticipates future needs and takes projects from ideation to deployment.
External Communications
• Drives the firm’s overall PR strategy, aligning with regional marketing leaders and managing various media relations agency resources to elevate awareness of Duff & Phelps and its services to global audiences.
• Executes traditional and digital PR campaigns working alongside the marketing and digital teams.
• Develops strategic communications plans for service initiatives, including global messaging, presentation materials and thought leadership positioning.
• Creates a standardized process for participation in public-facing events.
• Identifies new areas of opportunity to drive positive earned media for the company through traditional, digital and social media channels.
• Maximizes ROI by utilizing paid, earned and owned media channels.
• Oversees all media relations agency activity, from the development of proactive campaigns to the efficient reactive management of direct inquiries. Includes oversight for budgets, spending, and delivery of services against each agency’s scope of work.
• Aligns internal and external communications initiatives to promote brand, client and employee messages to all core audiences internally and externally.
• Aligns PR efforts with intranet strategy to maximize employee engagement.
• Serves as Editor-in-Chief for the department, including website content and electronic/print communications.
• Develops a comprehensive measurement approach to track volume and sentiment of earned media exposure, as well as direct traffic and engagement, resulting from external communications efforts.
General
• Defines activities and accountabilities across Communications staff, determining appropriate resourcing level and securing external support as needed.
• Ensures performance and talent management.
• Delivers results against a tightly managed budget, tracking and reporting on spending.
Requirements:
• MBA or Master’s degree in communications, marketing communications, public relations or other relevant degree or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of progressive work experience in internal and external communications, brand communications, or related focus areas in a complex financial or professional services environment.
• 8+ years in a management role.
• Experience working cross-functionally to translate communication strategies into corporate culture and employee engagement.
• Exceptional communication skills, able to listen actively; speak and write persuasively and inspirationally.
• Exceptional strategic thinking and analytical skills; able to discern, plan and evaluate courses of action.
• Exceptional creative direction skills; able to ensure translation of brand image and voice into compelling internal and external communications and supporting collateral.
• Ability to influence, inspire and lead colleagues across a diverse global organization.
• Substantial project management experience with proven ability to coach team members to achieve optimal results in a positive working environment.
• Experience analyzing and applying market, audience and stakeholder research.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, results-oriented and intellectually stimulating environment that seeks to constantly evolve and grow.
• Ability to work well under deadline pressure and deal with ambiguity.
• Ability to excel in a matrix management environment with little day-to-day oversight.
