Job Description
Specialty Insurance Group, a member of Everest Re Group, Ltd., is seeking a Manager of Underwriting for its office in Carmel, Indiana.
Under minimal supervision, perform underwriting and related duties for the Underwriting Department of Specialty Insurance Group specifically in the segment assigned. Assist in the on-going refinement of products and services provided to the Specialty Insurance Group client network. Working with SIG and Everest staff, assist in the development of new programs that include underwriting guidelines/rules, new products, and rating plans. Provide training and assistance to Underwriting Assistants and Client Service Representatives. Analyze rating adequacy and underwriting guidelines to ensure the achievement of targeted underwriting loss results. Coordinate with marketing staff in the development of profitable sports, leisure and entertainment business. Operate within established underwriting authority levels as are established by SIG management from time to time.
Specialty Insurance Group is a Program Administrator whose mission is to be the recognized leader in providing contemporary insurance and risk management programs that allow for stable risk avoidance and risk transfer program for the sports and entertainment industries.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Underwrite new and renewal submissions for specialty products in the SIG portfolio utilizing insurance carriers that have given SIG underwriting authority as well as approaching product placement on an open market basis when appropriate. Assigned segment underwriting to be completed to achieve SIG’s targeted loss ratio objectives of a 90% combined ultimate loss ratio and future loss ratio goals as may be established by SIG senior management from time to time.
• Work with SIG management team on the refinement of existing products, pricing, and underwriting guidelines in the assigned segment to ensure the competitiveness and profitability of SIG’s product portfolio.
• Assist in training other underwriting and administrative staff in workflow processes including underwriting, policy issuance, and policy servicing.
• Coordinate with the SIG marketing team to achieve profitable premium writing to achieve SIG’s yearly goals. Also participate in achieving future production and underwriting goals as will be established by SIG senior management from time to time.
• Participate in analysis of business results including forecasting of ultimate losses by line of business and market segment and using that information to recommend pricing and selection adjustments to achieve ultimate loss ratio objectives.
• Underwrite within agreed upon Letters of Authority as may be established by SIG senior management from time to time.
• Stay abreast of insurance statutes in those States where SIG transacts business in order to assure compliance with administrative processes.
Manager of Underwriting will (if deemed necessary) maintain resident property casualty, surplus lines, and accident and health licenses and will maintain non-resident licenses in those States as may be required to support SIG’s underwriting and distribution.
