Description
Kemper is looking for a highly talented and motivated professional to join its Tax Department. More specifically, we are looking for a Senior Tax Accountant based for our Chicago offices to participate in tax reporting, tax compliance and tax forecasting. This person will be part of significant transformational change including implementing digital technologies and work consolidating tax activities performed in various locations.
The Senior Tax Accountant will participate in our tax provision, compliance and forecasting functions and as well as assist with tax planning initiatives. This person must be able to able to work both independently and within a team environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for improving processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Prepare tax provisions under both ASC 740 and SSAP 101
• Prepare tax returns for income and indirect taxes
• Prepare tax forecasts working with FP&A personnel
• Participate in and potentially lead process improvement and/or technology implementation projects
• Conduct research and analysis with respect to technical tax and tax accounting rules
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or related field or equivalent training
• 3+ years of relevant tax experience with an accounting firm, law firm or corporate tax function
• Ability to manage competing demands, showing sound decision making and delivering results on tight timelines
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with business reporting technologies (e.g, Hyperion or similar)
• Effective interpersonal skills including written and oral communication
Preferred Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of insurance company and corporate taxation
• Ability to analyze and interpret statutes, regulations and other guidance
• Experience enabling growth, driving operational effectiveness, managing risk and improving the quality, speed and availability of data relevant to tax matters
• Experience working with Corptax or other significant tax technology a plus
• CPA a plus
