The Chief Data Officer (CDO) will be responsible for leading MUFG’s data strategy, execution and maturity in the Americas. He/she will focus on ensuring adherence to a common MUFG framework for data governance policies, standards and practices. The CDO will have a goal of ensuring MUFG data is consistent, accurate and accessible for regulatory and business purposes. He/she will work across business lines, technology, risk, finance, compliance and other functions to establish MUFG’s data needs, and work to ensure that MUFG is best in class in managing and delivering data. The CDO will be the Data evangelist for the Americas with strong coordination with MUFG’s Global Data Strategy.
Due to the strategic nature and importance of our Chief Data Office, the Chief Data Officer will report to the Chief Corporate Administrative Officer and will have close alignment to the Chief Executive Officer for the Americas and the Chief Information & Operations Officer.
Specific responsibilities include:
Data Governance
# Ensure enterprise data meets Business and Regulatory requirements and moves to next level of maturity.
# Create common MUFG policies, principles and standards.
# Analyze current state of MUFG data strategy and governance, and recast as needed including investments required.
# Create and lead Data Councils and Steering Committees: coordinating across business lines, technology, risk and finance.
# Product management of data applications (Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, Data Marts etc., RDM, Data Governance Applications).
# Create and track metrics to track implementation progress.
# Manage data stewardship implementation and accountability.
# Execute data quality activation – Definition & Lineage.
# Employee communications and training; client communications.
Data Roadmap and Management
# Crafting of Enterprise Data strategy in partnership with technology leadership.
# Enterprise Reference Data Management including Client/Party, Securities Master and Product data.
# Partnership with technology division on reference data technology architecture.
# Define and lead the implementation of Master data and be an advocate for a Global Master Data solution.
BCBS 239 Enterprise Owner
# Ensure compliance with BCBS principles across the Americas. Responsible for monitoring and reporting on the maturity of BCBS principles. Support Global effort for BCBS principles.
# Broader implementation beyond initial risk reporting to all Risk Data Aggregation and Risk Reporting.
# Close gaps identified by Audit and BCBS Validation group and Regulators.
# ECA and Board transparency and reporting.
Information Asset Management
# Lead effort to create Business Information Model (BIM) which will establish a common vocabulary for data across the Americas and ultimately on a Global basis.
# Ensure that all Metadata is of high quality and establish requirements for Metadata for all data in the Data Lake(s).
Data Analytics
# Establish a Center of Excellence for Data Analytics in order to become a data driven organization. Provide leadership around Data tools and products and leverage Big Data concepts to help drive business decisions.
Enterprise Content Management
# Enterprise Content Management governance and oversight over the proper handling of content to drive business efficiency and accuracy while adhering to applicable controls and risk management concerns utilizing a cost effective and standardized technology for properly trained users.
Information Management Portfolio Management
# Own the selection, prioritization, and tracking of CDO investments, as well as CDO resource management (e.g. employees, vendors, and financials). Track and own project governance in collaboration with Line of Business (LOB) organizations.
Qualifications
Primary Qualifications:
# Minimum of 15 years’ experience in a senior data position within a large-scale, complex business setting.
# Understands how to drive business outcomes via technology enablement.
# Proven ability to influence at the senior most levels and to interface and collaborate effectively with other senior leaders.
# Extensive experience building and leading a data organization or practice, as well as successful experience advocating for data and driving business value from data across a business.
# Experience in management and leadership roles, ideally with a blend of technology and operations experience and a strong business orientation and acumen.
# A proven enterprise leader with extensive experience taking an outside-in view to clients, infrastructure, process, quality, and developing solutions.
# Proven track record of managing/overseeing large-scale delivery.
# Thrives in a constantly changing environment; continually looks to improve the model and drive transformation.
# Brings a commercial mindset with a proven ability to offer strategic solutions and manage in a progressive fashion. Skilled at focusing on the best interests of clients while appropriately balancing the best interests of the business and shareholders.
# Has a track record of transformative leadership of large operations, including the ability to build, nurture, mobilize and, as needed, restructure organizations for top performance.
# Leader that has led large-scale geographically dispersed teams.
