The Manager of the Derivative Counterparty Operations Team will work in the Global Derivative Operations area of Morgan Stanley Investment Management supporting the Long Only, Liquidity, Alternatives, and Merchant Banking / Real Estate businesses. Morgan Stanley Investment Management is a leader in the global investment management business and its Operations Group serves the firms portfolio managers and associated teams by providing high quality support through excellence in processing, reporting, and management of strategic initiatives.
MSIM Derivative Operations is increasing its support of critical areas impacted by new regulatory requirements and expanding business initiatives by looking for a leader that will manage a team focusing on the operational processes required to onboard new clients and funds for derivative trading and manage account relationships with counterparties, clearing brokers, and clearinghouses. This group of professionals manages a variety of global risk control functions within the department including, but not limited to:
• Derivative Legal Agreement Management
• KYC support
• OTC Trade Confirmations
• Counterparty Credit Risk Management
The ideal candidate for this role is a person that has a deep asset management background, carefully considers details, has a strategic focus on streamlining and integrating infrastructure, understands and focuses on process and control, and has sound judgment and problem solving skills.
Responsibilities
• Understand key regulatory changes that impact derivative operations and work with internal teams to ensure regulatory demands are met
• Assist with daily processing responsibilities focused around counterparty credit risk, OTC trade confirmation, and the operational functions required to comply with and handle a wide scope of derivative legal agreements
-Partner with various firm divisions and committees to streamline the counterparty management process and to develop strong policies and procedures
• Interact with various third party service providers, such as custodians and accountants
• Continually review and improve processes to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness
• Support current business initiatives within the team
• Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelors Degree (Finance, Economics or Accounting preferred) and a minimum of 5-7 years experience in financial services operations or similar role
• A good understanding of the investment industry and various financial products
• Preferred experience in OTC confirmations, derivative legal agreements, counterparty credit risk and various financial products
• Experience managing people and multiple processes
• Facility with common corporate technology platforms and applications including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
• A high degree of organization and an orientation toward strict attention to detail
• Thorough understanding of the legal and regulatory concepts governing client confidentiality
• Demonstrated success working in a high volume, high intensity environment and an ability to get closure on issues promptly
• Proven record of collaborating with a diverse group of colleagues across geographic and functional boundaries
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Professional maturity, self-confidence, decisiveness and outstanding business judgment
• Ability to work independently
