Responsibilities:
Portfolio Operations is comprised of two groups: Portfolio Accounting and Performance Reporting. Portfolio Accounting completes reconciliations for cash and holdings daily primarily for institutional clients. Additionally, Portfolio Accounting is responsible for compiling and sending both scheduled and ad-hoc reporting to clients and custodians for a large number of accounts serviced. The Performance and NAV Delivery team is responsible for 1) calculation and reporting of fund and institutional performance and 2) daily distribution of fund NAVs. The Portfolio Operations Director is responsible for providing leadership, strategic planning, and overall management and direction to the team’s departmental operations and staff to ensure client needs are met or exceeded. Develops, implements, and ensures the effectiveness of all departmental policies, processes and systems.
• Responsible for leading staff and functions within the portfolio accounting and performance teams
• In conjunction with management, develop, recommend and execute business plans for the groups
• Oversee portfolio reconciliation functions and controls to ensure timely and accurate reporting and adherence to deadlines
• Maintain a well-controlled support environment
• Anticipate issues that may cause errors or adversely affect the ability to meet deadlines, and take action to prevent the risk of occurrences
• Support staff in solving problems and incorporating new processes to mitigate risks
• Assist managers in day-to-day supervision of staff within their respective teams
Responsibilities Cont’d:
• Foster a strong sense of ownership in the departments
• Manage and maintain relationships with internal and external constituents
• Fluency in middle office functions
• Monitoring of cash and holdings exceptions between the accounting system and the custodians; assist in resolving differences and be point of escalation.
• Develop, implement, and maintain departmental systems, policies and procedures, and internal work standards
• Make decisions regarding employment, performance appraisals, training and development, disciplinary actions and provide input to salary adjustments
• Facilitate testing around system enhancements and upgrades
• Facilitate product changes for the department
• Ensure department quality and efficiency levels are maintained or increased as measured by KPIs
• Supports, and provides direct input to the product development process
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle and project management principles
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Manages exempt and non-exempt staff either directly or through subordinate supervisors.
• Plans, allocates, monitors work and makes decisions regarding employment, performance appraisal, and training, related personnel actions and provide input to salary adjustments.
Minimum Required Qualifications
• 5 years’ experience in the mutual fund/financial services industry
• 5 years’ management experience
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
• Thorough knowledge of financial services industry
• Knowledge of investment strategies and markets (fixed income, alternatives, asset allocation, currency hedging, etc.)
• Understanding of security types (derivatives, forwards, etc.)
• Detailed understanding of how Portfolio Accounting and Performance teams interface with other internal departments, including downstream information flow and impacts
• A Client Service Delivery mentality toward both internal clients and the underlying client
• Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel and portfolio/fund accounting systems
• Excellent:
