The Opportunity
Public Sector Manager, Northeast Territory
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Drives the creation of Territory and Market level public sector strategies including assisting with the market assignment of Associates to drive public sector activity to the small-case market assist with determining the appropriate broker partners to engage with to drive significant public sector growth.
Drives the competitive strategy, the development of marketing campaigns and product launches within the territory with a focus on public sector market strategy; identifies and implements best practices that will effectively drive sales and recruiting, strengthen the sales force and help maintain continued growth for the territory; maintains a deep understanding of Aflac capabilities and segment level strategies for the territory; works with territory leaders to ensure consistent execution and to identify local needs that headquarters can help address; works with headquarters to tailor programs and develop initiatives for the local territory office
Partners with both channels in the assigned Territory/Markets to drive activity and to ensure that the sales force has the support needed to succeed in the public sector market; attends meetings with both clients and brokers to help drive messaging and close accounts
Travels throughout the territory to each Market and conducts in person training with both associates and the broker channel, to include classroom training in addition to field training, while leading meetings with brokers and clients
Establishes and builds relationships with key sources who will market the Aflac portfolio of products to the nation’s leading employers within the public sector market; supports overall relationship with key brokers while partnering with local sales teams to direct internal account support
Develops and maintains a holistic view of Aflac offerings and competitor and market conditions in the territory; identifies account segment marketing opportunities in each Market, emphasizing the use of the Book of Business tool (“BoB”)
Guarantees that Aflac products are aggressively and competitively positioned through all distribution channels within his/her assigned Territory/Markets with public sector brokers and clients; assists with the development of strategies and plans to grow the public sector business; develops selling models to optimize sales results
Creates and maintains a public sector business plan within the assigned territory based on the public sector Market’s likely requirements; drives the pipeline and revenue goals for accounts within scope of responsibility to meet and ultimately exceed growth goals
Drives public sector initiatives; coordinates account identification and development activities from an overall business perspective; oversees activities related to the development and implementation of strategies and plans to support the territory in the acquisition of new accounts; develops presentations for public sector accounts and facilitates meetings to support the field force; develops and implements sales strategies to support the field in the identification and acquisition of new accounts through relationships developed with regional brokers
Compiles statistics, evaluates data, forms conclusions and presents recommendations to management in several areas including sales force manpower planning; participates in and/or coordinates territory meetings, trade shows, territory activities, special events, seminars, etc.; stays current on technical product-related knowledge and general sales techniques and trends; prepares summaries of important trends for management; proactively consults with and influences a variety of constituents based on strategies and actual performance
Acts as a liaison/resource between the sales force and headquarters to troubleshoot issues involving business critical strategic initiatives
Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field and six years of work-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
A minimum of four years regional insurance or sales experience (national sales experience preferred)
Experience working in the public sector market (preferred)
Job Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrated ability to create and implement strategies that will increase number of active accounts, penetration of existing accounts, and acquisition of new accounts; accomplishment at both the individual, team, region, and preferably national level
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the principles, techniques, and methodology of project management, quality management, and change management
Proven track record of success leading a team of individuals to achieve increased sales dollars and account penetration
Demonstrated ability to use experience and knowledge of sales process to develop sales and recruiting strategies for multiple regions
Excellent presentation, oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills to effectively interact and act as an advisor on professional issues with Aflac’s senior management, and internal and external business contacts
