Pricing Analyst – Lead
This new senior analyst role represents a unique opportunity at PGR to be part of a team driving a high-profile growth agenda in the Commercial Lines division – working closely with the Senior Pricing Director on providing real-time pricing advice to the senior marketing leaders in charge of the fast-evolving Transportation Network Company (TNC) and Business Owners Policy (BOP) programs. This role will also provide pricing and structure advice on Ceded reinsurance to senior CL leaders. In addition to addressing real-time pricing problems, the role will collaborate with the Senior Pricing Director to hypothesize, design, test and implement new Direct and Ceded pricing models for these growth segments. Most importantly, the role will require a unique balance of (1) responsiveness to PGR’s successful culture and approach to P&C pricing analytics with (2) an independence and maturity to successfully incorporate new, creative ideas - influenced by relevant industry experience - into that framework. Finally, the role will also require a difficult balance of (1) in-depth understanding of detailed analytics, (2) a practical understanding of business nuances and (3) ability to communicate with senior business leaders. Given the nature of this special role and based on demonstrable successful contributions, there is significant room for growth to AVP-equivalent responsibilities over time.
Required Knowledge, Experience, and Education:
• Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Finance, Mathematics, Accounting, Economics, or Statistics or related field of study.
• Minimum 5 years property and casualty insurance experience or related professional experience (e.g., analytical work in a professional setting).
• This position requires online pre-employment testing for internal and external candidates.
• Solid grasp and knowledge of mathematics, statistics, probability and principles of finance to apply to property casualty business problems for area of responsibility.
• Possesses a solid understanding of our business, systems and processes.
• Demonstrates attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
• Solid knowledge of mainframe reporting packages and relevant knowledge of company systems.
• Demonstrates intermediate SAS and SQL programming skills including the ability to create basic programs.
• Demonstrates intermediate MS office skills.
• Demonstrates intermediate skills in Excel including the ability to create, manipulate and formulate spreadsheets. Knowledge of spreadsheet functionality including v-look-up, pivot tables, charts and graphing.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Requirements:
• 2 years of reinsurance pricing experience, either ceded or assumed, at a direct insurer, a reinsurer or reinsurance intermediary. This is in addition to 5 years of P&C experience or related professional experience.
• Thorough understanding of relevant Actuarial principles and methods. Certification in the CAS is not required. If the selected candidate is working toward certification in the CAS, then they will be supported through the corporate Actuarial Study program.
• Mastery of advanced statistical techniques allowing for modeling and formal hypothesis testing of data possibly displaying serial correlation and heteroscedasticity.
• Significant experience hypothesizing, designing, creating and implementing data flows to support pricing analytics - from data acquisition to final exhibits supporting recommendations.
• Superior communications skills – the ability to converse with senior business leaders about analytics and its relevance to solving business problems.
• Mastery of Excel and Access, including SQL, cell-based formulas, pivot tables, VBA, connections to external data, some which may be server-based corporate sources.
• Advanced skills with established statistical software, like R or SAS – specifically, programming simulations for use in Exposure Rating pricing models, superior data visualization techniques and the efficient programming of necessary statistical tests.
