Senior Audit Director develops, directs, and monitors internal audit activities for various areas of the bank. Responsible for the oversight and execution of the audit plans. Assesses risks, evaluates issue remediation progress, and provides feedback, meeting regularly with Executive Management to communicate on various audits and gathering insights on various bank activities. The Auditor Director Senior typically directs a medium to large-sized team of employees (12+), including supervisors and team leads of small to medium-sized team of employees.
Responsibilities
• Actively contributes to overall strategic audit plan; develops goals and monitors accomplishments. Develops and executes the comprehensive risk-based, multi-year plan of audit coverage for assigned areas.
• Directs and drives the success of multiple audit engagements within budgetary and time commitments while providing high quality work products. Ensures the scope of work will meet the audit engagement objectives and reviews audit work performed to ensure audit objectives are met. Ensures that proposals for improvements to internal controls are balanced with organizational objectives.
• Reviews and approves auditor assessment that management actions have effectively resolved audit issues.
• Develops and maintains relationships with the Bank’s Chief Operating Officer and other executives and key stakeholders. Develops a strong rapport with senior management to ensure discussions are trusted, constructive and valued; works diligently to understand the company’s strategies and risks. Presents audit results to stakeholders in a professional and organized manner.
• Takes ownership of, and demonstrates leadership around continuous improvement initiatives within the audit organization; serves as a key resource for industry intelligence to the audit team.
• Provides supervision to and directs the activities of Audit employees and Contractors / Vendors; performs supervisory tasks such as performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and interviewing candidates for employment; develops work schedules; provides necessary training and coaching.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a college or university
• 10 or more years of experience in internal / external audit in the financial services industry
• 5 or more years of experience in a managerial role
• Professional certification of CIA, CPA, CISA, or CFE
• Strong knowledge of general banking industry and activities
• Superior oral and written communication; comfortable making presentations to executives and groups of professionals. Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely
• Demonstrated ability to draft written communications requiring little or no editing, and effectively edit written communications of others
• Demonstrated ability to influence and effect change, and quickly navigate through the organization
• Creative thinker who can map out creative solutions and lead their implementation. Proactive thought process, with an ability to foresee potential risks ahead of business decisions
• Collaborative approach, taking ownership to ensure the quality of the audit team’s product and success
• Strong project management skills, with the capability to prioritize multiple demands
• Possess business acumen and judgment plus ability to resolve and communicate key issues to all levels
• Self-motivated and self-directed with a “hands on” style to lead change
