Role Summary:
The Program Management Executive is responsible for providing direct program management and communications for a portfolio of approximately $50MM of technology initiatives, aligned to the bank’s strategic plan. This position will report to the Enterprise Program Management Office (EPMO) Executive within the Integrated Services of the Americas organization. ISA is comprised of the technology and operations functions for MUFG Americas. This position will also be accountable to the respective business sponsors of the projects and programs.
This senior leader will:
• Collaborate with Business and Technology Lead to ensure the goals of the portfolio are achieved.
• Manage and communicate across all projects and stakeholders in the portfolio
• Provide oversight of (matrix in some cases) individual Project Managers
• Monitor and track performance and overall progress of projects in the portfolio, including deliverables, timeline, budget and resources.
• Assess and monitor program issues, risks, dependencies, resource needs
• Report/communicate status/escalate issues/risks
• Review/approve project level change controls within authority levels
• Manages team of project and program managers
• Develop internal project management talent, in particular by engaging with the Project Management Academy (PMA) program
Major Responsibilities:
• Applies many years of project and program management experience to successfully manage large and complex (high visibility/risk) programs
• Partner with Sr. Technology Partners and Business Leads/Sponsors, to develop strategic roadmaps to deliver large/complex technology programs, and ensure that targeted business outcomes of the program are met.
• Effectively oversee/manage multiple projects comprising a program within the specified time frame and budget per EPMO Policies and Procedures, including use of the Bank’s Project Life Cycle, and project management tools/methodology
• . Interpret and translate strategic business requirements into IT/EPMO services and projects, Review and set direction for projects and portfolios; manage approval process.
• Manage risk and accountability for program success. Identify and categorize risks to projects, portfolio and organization/reputation. Ensure mitigation plans are in place to address risks.
• Stakeholder/Customer Management: Develop and maintain relationship with project team and stakeholders. Manage and negotiate needs and expectations. Coordinate with peers across IT to align with Enterprise Project Life Cycle/EMPO methodologies.
• Budget Management & Forecasting: Create accurate budget plans and usher them through approvals. Manage the actual and estimate to complete on an active basis. Ensure the capital investment of firm is managed efficiently.
• Project/Portfolio Reporting: Provide oversight and coaching on project/portfolio reporting. Identify key issues and risks in reports and ensure follow up.
• Scope Management: Manage project/portfolio and organizational change control processes. Analyze and approve change requests that have strategic implications, balancing risk and opportunity.
• Change management: oversee communications, training, and adoption efforts for the projects in the portfolio, partnering with corporate and ISA communications, human resources, etc. as needed
• Executive Committee / Leadership Reporting. Develop and deliver strategic presentations to home office/Executive Committee for the Americas. Design/improve status reports.
Qualifications
Education and Certifications:
• Four-year college degree (e.g., B.A., B.S.) is required
• Advanced degree or MBA is a plus, but not required
• PMI Certification is a plus, but not required
Experience:
• Requires 15+ years in project/program management, encompassing the full life cycle of planning, execution, implementation, and BAU handover
• Demonstrated progression from junior project management resource to senior program manager
• Requires 10+ years leadership and management experience
• Experience delivering a large program (at or over $25MM) within a rigorous project management framework in financial services is required
• Consulting experience within the financial services industry is preferred, but not required
