Operational Risk Management assists senior management in identifying, assessing, and monitoring key risks and related controls. Working in Operational Risk Management is a unique opportunity and establishes a great foundation for a banking career, as risk management officers are exposed to the broad scope of the bank holding company, its subsidiaries, and its operations.
The Risk Officer helps provide the leadership, analysis skills, and innovative thinking necessary to enhance and carry out Zions Bancorporation’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework.
Responsibilities include:
• Advise various business lines on risk and control practices and matters.
• Assist the business line functions in adhering to the various risk assessment requirements they are subject to.
• Review and challenge risk and control assessments completed by the business lines.
• Perform additional risk oversight and assessment activities including, but not limited to operational loss data validation, control testing and validation, root cause analysis of significant fraud and other risk events, preparation of management reports, and targeted risk and control assessments.
• Work with others in Operational Risk Management to ensure that risk management programs and requirements are addressing the needs of the various business lines.
• The environment is dynamic, as risk officers frequently evaluate different bank processes (on both micro and macro levels) and work with management (including executive management) throughout the entire Bancorporation and affiliates.
• Some travel may be required.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Information Technology, or related field.
• Experience in risk management, operations, project management, analytics, audit or a related role for a large-scale business, preferably in the banking industry.
• Knowledge of risk and control concepts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information to regulators, senior management, and the Board of Directors.
• Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data and provide summary reports and recommendations.
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships including providing critical feedback to internal and external partners.
• 4+ years directly related experience.
• Experience requirement can be partially offset by post-graduate education and/or applicable certifications
