Job Summary
The Communications Director develops, directs, produces and coordinates communication plans that further the business unit’s strategy. In addition, this individual will oversee all aspects of the day-day activities of the business unit communications team. This individual will work in close collaboration with the Chief Communications Officer on the development and implementation of strategic internal, external and social networking Communications strategies and messaging.
Essential Job Functions
• Develop, manage and evaluate agent-facing internal communications, designed to provide Farmers' independent agents with consistent, timely and in-depth updates on the business including Intranet, email announcements, newsletters, blogs, webcasts/podcasts, meetings, and presentations aimed at educating agents and employees about strategy, business news, and results while supporting the Farmers brand. Communicate key strategic, sales, promotional and product-related information to Farmers' independent agency force in an engaging and compelling way.
• Provide communications strategy and execution for several agent conventions each year, scripting a compelling and motivational message to Farmers' top independent agents.
• Work in close partnership with Distribution executives to design and update agent-facing websites and sales dashboards.
• Provide executive and senior leadership communication support in mapping business unit strategy and actions to enterprise strategic plans and objectives.
• Partner with Executive and Senior Leadership team on dissemination of information via newsletters, email, blogs or other social media or intranet outlets.
• Serves as a resource to leaders in a consulting role to review their communication methods, styles and messages. Serves as communication resource on internal projects such as growth initiatives and operational changes to facilitate development and distribution of key messages. Partner with Executive/Senior leadership on content build and messaging for senior leadership meetings/briefings.
• Lead a team of communication professionals to develop communication plans in support of key messaging to agents and internal audiences including senior leaders, employees and agents. Recommend appropriate communication vehicles and methodologies to reach target audiences and meet objectives. Organize and delegate work in an effective manner for establishing appropriate timeframes for completion of work and for providing the necessary leadership to ensure effective work results.
• Evaluate and measure the success of internal communication.

Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Communications or Marketing
Experience Requirements
• At least 7 years of experience in delivering best practice internal communications as a manager or consultant or equivalent professional experience.
• Familiarity with video scripting and production, social media, and web design preferred.
• Experience planning and producing live events, and communicating to sales and marketing teams strongly preferred.
Special Skill Requirement
• Excellent verbal, written and visual communications skills, including superior editing and proofreading abilities.
• Ability to create, plan, and manage communications projects to deliver value-added solutions on time and within budget.
• Strong project management skills.
• Expert knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Proficient knowledge of layout design, video and audio production, and image editing is also expected, along with experience using a content management system and Web and HTML publishing tools.
• Strong familiarity with the fundamentals of social media.
• Management experience, including development of a team.
