Job Description
The Senior Director, North America Controllership role is responsible for leading the corporate accounting activities of Visa Inc. including the global consolidation of Visa Inc.’s various regional financial statements, and corporate accounting for global treasury activities, personnel incentives and benefits, intercompany, as well as accounting operational support for corporate business functions. The role requires broad collaboration across many functions of Visa with frequent interaction with various senior leaders. This Senior Director role manages a team of four professionals, and reports to the North America Controller. The ideal candidate is able to both elevate and effectively communicate with and influence leaders within Finance and across functions, as well as reviewing and overseeing the work product of the team.
While significant experience in accounting operations and technical accounting is a benefit in this role, the Senior Director must also be:
• A strong leader: Although this role directly oversees a highly engaged and proficient team, the team requires guidance and direction as unique technical accounting and operational issues arise;
• Collaborative/Able to Influence without Direct Authority: Must regularly engage and leverage senior leaders in broader Visa Finance, Treasury, Human Resources, Legal and regional Controllership teams across the globe to ensure business transactions are reflected accurately across regional and consolidated financial statements;
• Experienced in Executing and Strengthening Finance Processes and Controls: Must be able to continue the constant enhancement of Visa’s accounting processes and controls to ensure financial statement integrity and accuracy;
• A Strong Communicator: Able to effectively communicate with impact to all levels of the Company including Visa’s senior management team;
• Motivated: Must actively engage throughout global Visa to exploit this opportunity to obtain a deeper understanding of the Company and the corporate functions this role supports, while improving upon the NA Controllership’s team already high standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage, support and develop a team of four senior financial analysts and senior accountants, balancing resource needs while managing each of their long term interests and career goals;
• Oversee the accounting for global Treasury activities including foreign currency hedging, investments, debt, settlement between Visa’s customers (issuers and acquirers), and ensuring proper accounting for intercompany financing activities among Visa’s various legal entities.
• Oversee the accounting for global personnel programs including stock-based compensation (RSUs and ESPP), pensions, mobility program and cross entity expatriate accounting, and payroll accounting in North America.
• Oversee the global consolidation of regional financials including remeasurement activities and impact of foreign exchange gain/loss on the financial statements, and ensuring all intercompany activities are properly supported, recorded, eliminated and settled. Visa operates its accounting activities on Oracle R12.
• Collaborate with colleagues in numerous functions throughout the company especially on cross functional projects that support the Treasury, Tax and Personnel benefit areas.
• Enhance existing processes and controls within the NA Controllership and corporate accounting activities, and across regional Controllership teams, to further strengthen accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field; Certified Public Accountant a strong preference
• 12+ years of public and/or private industry experience; including 5+ years leading and managing a team of accounting professionals in either public, industry or a combination thereof with hands on experience in accounting close, financial statement consolidation; prior experience in public accounting, Oracle R12, treasury and personnel related accounting are a benefit in this role, but not absolutely required
• Team-oriented, collaborative, engaging, and flexible, with excellent presentation skills, including strong oral and writing capabilities, adept at building relationships across the organization and seeing the big picture
• Knowledge of and experience with evaluating, designing and executing finance and accounting processes and controls
• Commitment to continuous training and improvement of employees throughout the finance and accounting function
• Demonstrated ability to be decisive and action-oriented regarding decisions affecting the team
• Committed to developing a team, including key talent, and building a strong succession pipeline for the future
• Outstanding organizational and project management skills with extensive experience managing multiple complex assignments simultaneously. Ability to apply sound judgment in order to:

Global Controllership Overview
Global Controllership ensures the integrity and accuracy of the consolidated Visa Inc. financial statements and local statutory financial statements around the world. We aim to do so by partnering and collaborating with the business and other Finance functions, providing excellent customer service, while also strengthening Visa’s global financial control environment through effective operating policies, procedures and controls. We provide support to Visa’s business operations in a broad range of functional areas including revenue and client incentive operations, financial close, technical accounting and SEC reporting, tax, internal controls and financial systems.
