Description
VPC, due to its key control mandate, is monitored closely by a number of internal and external regulatory bodies. In this role, the Director will be responsible for ensuring that the business objectives with respect to the initiative for ensuring that all market data used for a number of Market Risk processes including daily independent price verification (IPV), Value-at-Risk (VaR), and counterparty credit risk (CCR) is consistent with approved sources as documented in the Official Rate Source Documents (ORSDs) and has been appropriately verified and “scrubbed”.
• Provide experienced business leadership to ensure successful completion of the initiative to create a central database of market data to be used for all Market Risk Management processes
• Responsible for providing regular reporting to senior management
• With the assistance of Market Risk’s IT department, develop market data feeds to ensure that all market sources identified in the ORSD are stored in a central database.
• In conjunction with Market Risk’s IT department, develop an appropriate data model that captures all required attributes of each piece of market data. The data model should include raw data, “clean” data, and derived data such as implied volatility from market prices.
• Ensure that the appropriate data “cleaning” and data “scrubbing” tools are available (either in-house or 3rd party vendors)
• Ensure that application and visualization tools are available to review the raw, clean and derived market data
• Implement the necessary work flows to handle market data exceptions
• Ensure there are tools to allow a full audit trail with appropriate approvals for any modifications to the market data outside the approved data scrubbing methodologies
• Develop tools to extract historical market data (up to 10 years)
• Work closely with the team responsible for developing the ORSDs
• Develop reporting outlining the accuracy and reliability of each market data source
• Be proactive in identifying issues and proposing and implementing solutions.
Qualifications
• 10years of related work experience, preferably in a financial institution or audit firm
• Experience in managing teams of highly technical individuals
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong understanding of derivative products and markets, as well as the valuation and risk management methodologies associated with these.
• Strong analytic and problem solving skills.
• Strong understanding of establishing appropriate controls required for an independent valuation group
• Solid understanding of accounting principles, finance accountabilities, and back office processes would be an asset.
• Solid quantitative skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to function effectively within a team.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines while paying attention to details.
