Summary
Responsible for day to day management of accounting operations, including general ledger, fixed assets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing and reconciliations. Requires the ability to thrive in a fast paced work environment, demonstrates strong analytical skills and an ability to make smart business decisions using a good sense of judgement. In this role, you will work closely with the VP of Accounting.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage and oversee daily operations of the accounting department, including, but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, fixed assets, financial reporting and taxes
• Manage the monthly financial close and reporting process and ensure timely reporting of all monthly financial information
• Analyze variances and assist with the preparation of explanations
• Review, understand and document proper accounting treatment of new and/or unusual transactions
• Assist with tax preparation and serve as primary liaison with tax preparer and tax authorities
• Monitor staff activities and make recommendations for improving processes and procedures
• Complete 5500 filings and manage the Retirement Plan and 401k financial statement creation process
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors and regulatory examiners
• Review audit and tax documents prepared by staff
• Develop and maintain policies and procedures applicable to accounting processes
• Maintain internal control processes and standards and ensure the compliance of the team
• Prepare annual financial statements and footnotes
• Mentor, coach and oversee professional development of staff
• Perform other duties as requested
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Supervise 4-6 staff
Qualifications:
• Previous supervisory experience
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize and delegate duties
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Prior SEC/regulatory work environment experience, preferred
• Understands the importance of team building, both inside and outside the Accounting group
• Strong knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Technical Skills:
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
Education and/or Experience:
• 10-12 years of financial services experience
• Bachelor of Science degree in in Accounting or equivalent experience
• Prior experience with tax issues and preparing supporting documentation for tax preparer
Certificates or Licenses:
• Certified Public Accountant
