The Director, Global Product Communications will be a member of the Global Brand Communications team, reporting to the VP, Global Product Communications within the GABM (Global Advertising and Brand Management) team at American Express.
The GABM organization has a mission to create marketplace demand and driving commerce for American Express through differentiated and innovative products, partnerships, marketing and customer experiences. GABM’s ultimate vision is to be the most creative department in the Fortune 500.
The Global Media Communications and Experiences team is responsible for the creation of unparalleled partnerships, experiences media and communications globally for American Express. Within GMCE, the B40, Global Product Communications will be a subject matter expert in the areas of advertising, marketing and brand. This individual will be responsible for generating incredible storytelling and customer engagement, as well as impactful and effective integrated communications for the American Express Brand. This role will lead creation of “Build Once for Many” product advertising and marketing assets for the Global Consumer and Global B2B business as well as marketing asset creation for our Global Centers of Excellence.
The role will entail working in a flexible team structure across multiple initiatives across business units and geographic regions (including: Global, US only, and International markets). In addition, the role will partner closely with the Global Brand Management and Planning team in GABM.
This role is specifically responsible for:
• Contribute to the development of a global product strategy, and suite of creative assets for the American Express Company worldwide, specifically for the following business units:
◦ The Global Consumer business (including our Charge and Lending card products)
◦ The Global B2B business (including Business card products and the merchant business)
◦ Our Global “Centers of Excellence”, including but not limited to: Insurance, International Currency Card, TLS, Amex Travel Online, Membership Rewards, Enterprise Digital, IMS
• Creative asset development process from initial briefs through to live in market deployment, as well as the production for all media channels globally (including 360 communication channels across traditional and digital)
• Create and lead communications / messaging architectures and frameworks to ensure consistency of communication messaging across brand, product and business units
• “Build once for Many” – create central marketing campaigns, assets, templates that equip our non-brand funded international markets and BUs with a central suite of insights, tools, techniques, assets to deploy in local markets / regions
• Partner with leaders within the American Express business units & centers of excellence across key initiatives
• Leverage customer insights to direct, evaluate and adjust creative campaign elements to achieve better business outcomes
• As required, manage talent relationships and negotiations and cultivate their involvement with the American Express brand
• Lead team of Marketing Managers and agency partners day to day
• Partner with GABM’s Global Brand Management & Planning team as needed in development of guidelines, toolkits & training
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing superior strategic and tactical 360 degree communications, creative development and media knowledge for a top brand.
• Subject matter expert – Brand, Marketing and 360 Communications expertise with substantial expertise in delivering marketing communications in B2C & B2C
• Ability to effectively consult with, influence and partner with range of stakeholders to ensure buy-in and adoption of multi market brand and marketing solutions
• Proven track record in successfully leading development & delivery of 360 brand, marketing and communications initiatives and efficient platform implementation across range of markets / regions
• Customer centric thinker – proven ability to problem solve in a BU, discipline and channel neutral fashion in order to deliver the right solution for the consumer and the brand
• Excellent relationship management skills - proven ability to build and strengthen relationships across all levels of management and across a multi cultural environment
• Strong creative instincts and judgment – proven ability to inspire and galvanize agency partners to deliver breakthrough creative solutions
• Proven ability to multi task and effectively drive results
• People leadership experience – including both direct reporting line and managing staff outside of direct reporting line
• International experience preferred – experience partnering successfully with range of International markets
• Collaborative mindset, curiosity and resiliency and with a sense of humor and passion to deliver best in class marketing in fast-paced work environment
• Change agent & strategic problem solver – courage, strategic mindset and ability to look beyond business as usual to identify new solutions
• Demonstrate a passion for and ability to “Live” the American Express brand
