Private Bank & Overseas Services (PB&OS) is a division of Barclays International. It provides wealth management and corporate banking services to personal and specialist non-personal clients. Within PB&OS the Overseas Services business operates out of London, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. We provide offshore banking and investment services to specialist business segments – Fiduciaries, Funds, Family Offices, Captive Insurers and Offshore Corporates – and international banking and investment services to personal clients resident in countries around the world. We also offer personal and small / local corporate banking services to individuals and businesses resident in Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man. We also provide offshore booking capabilities for other parts of PB&OS and Barclays.
Overall purpose of role
The Relationship Director role within the team is to build and acquire highly proactive, long-term, internal and external business relationships to grow and develop a portfolio of International corporate clients to generate sustained long term income. A key element of the role is the Relationship Director engaging with the clients senior management team and obtaining an in depth understanding of their strategic business needs and issues and overtime being seen as a ‘Go To’ by potential clients.
The Relationship Director will work closely with colleagues from the across the Barclays Group. Whilst adhering to regulatory requirements and compliance policies to avoid exposing the business to undue risk. The ultimate aim of the Relationship Director is to build and maintain a portfolio of clients, deliver exceptional sales & business performance whilst maintaining sound risk management.
Key Accountabilities
New Business Origination:
The role holder will work to identify, develop and secure new relationships with a range of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management and Barclays Group partners across the target jurisdictions or market, as part of the new client acquisition strategy across booking platforms. In developing these relationships with other parts of Barclays Group to ensure clients are managed in the most appropriate way, colleagues will have joint responsibility for the end to end client experience, ensuring client satisfaction.
The successful candidate will also actively lead initiatives with external business introducers, trade associations, solicitors and accountants.
In fulfilling the above accountabilities, the Relationship Director will increase the portfolio value of key International Corporate clients.
Client Service/Portfolio of Clients:
The role holder will actively manage and grow effective client relationships, identifying and managing solutions to meet a wide range of client needs, including banking, investments, foreign exchange and wealth structuring. The role holder must maintain regular proactive contact with the client and respond swiftly to client queries and questions. The role holder must demonstrate a quality understanding of the business and strategy of the clients within their portfolio. They must identify opportunities and convert them for long term commercial reward, as well as to be able to manage their own business plan and continuously refine how to achieve their business goals. The role holder will also proactively acquire new clients through referrals from existing clients and relationships with a network of introducers.
Risk Management:
Barclays is dedicated to quality Risk Management at all times; the role holder will therefore ensure that standards, both legal and regulatory, are constantly adhered to in order to avoid exposing the business to undue risk. These standards include the bank’s guidelines on Customer Acceptance, Data Protection, Cross Border Policy, Anti-Money Laundering, Customer Due Diligence, Financial Crimes, Prohibitions and Sanctions. The role holder will research and maintain sound risk management and prevent emerging risks where possible.
Internal Relationship Management:
The role holder will be committed to ensuring that clients have access to the best possible service that Barclays can offer. The role holder will therefore develop relationships with other parts of the bank; in doing so, they will have joint responsibility with internal colleagues for the end-to-end client experience, ensuring satisfaction.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The role holder may be required to supervise a small number of Account Executives on a day-to-day basis, although there will be no direct line management responsibility for these members of staff.

The role holder will be able to identify and provide tailored solutions to meet a wide range of client needs. The role holder will also establish thorough client plans, react to and develop new opportunities from client contacts, ensuring appropriate provision of products and services both directly and via product specialists.

Person Specification
The role holder will have spent a high proportion of their career within financial services and will have a thorough understanding and appreciation of the need to operate to high risk and regulatory standards particularly in their target markets. The suitable individual will have excellent technical competencies such as; profit orientation and business awareness with a client focus, relationship-orientated in a culturally diverse international market and the ability to exert commercial negotiation and influencing skills. Demonstration of strong knowledge of global economics and political conditions, current affairs and competitor activity and the implication of these will be necessary for benefit of our clients. Candidates will be able to demonstrate a depth of commercial understanding of the businesses they have supported in the past, coupled with an appetite to build a deep appreciation of the corporate and intermediary banking sector.
Academic and professional qualifications
The preferred candidate will have suitable industry qualifications and a knowledge of the standards expected by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (as Barclays lead regulator), detailed understanding of various policies adopted by Barclays Wealth including Customer Acceptance procedures, Cross Border Policy, Financial Crimes, Prohibitions and Sanctions Policy KYC, Anti money Laundering policies and fraud prevention, risk avoidance policies and practices.
A high-quality degree level education, a first class academic record or an MBA is beneficial.
Language skills
Excellent command of the English language with strong written and verbal communication skills is crucial

The job holder will be action oriented, with a focus on continuous improvement in all areas of work. Known for their enthusiasm and productivity, they are able to deliver quality results with a challenging but positive and influential style. This is a global account management function with high level of origination and senior leadership in key client management. Diplomacy and ability to deal with matrix structures and multiple geographies and functions would give the role holder the best chance of success in the role. This role will entail international travel and the ideal candidate should be available to travel at short notice if required.
