Overall purpose of role
As a Director-level member of the Strategic Analytics as well as Barclaycard US Senior Leadership team, the role owner will drive world-class analytics strategy as it relates to acquiring new Barclaycard US customers across our consumer card, business card, deposits and consumer lending lines of business. This entails building and managing a foundation of analytical tools and methods, and using those solutions to optimize all acquisition marketing program targeting and provide valuable insights that guide customer acquisition strategies across the business. The role owner will effectively lead a team of ~ 20-30 highly-skilled professionals to execute upon this strategy. The role will be underpinned by a culture of both local and global collaboration, innovation, and high performance.
In addition to the above, the individual will be expected to help drive business solutions across the following areas across our Branded and Partnership Business:
• Product Strategy: Identifying Customer Needs and Segmenting them to determine appropriate product offerings, as well their optimal price points
• Channel Strategy: Optimizing the marketing mix across push and pull channels as well as through intermediary distributors/Price Comparison Sites and above the line advertising
• Credit Policy: Working with the Credit Risk team to ensure a balanced Underwriting Strategy that ensures growth and control
• Check and Challenge: Partnering across the cards business unit, Finance, Risk, Marketing, and Model Governance teams to ensure that all decisions are financially viable and sustainable, operationally achievable and within conduct and risk appetite
• Championing Innovation: Acting as a thought leader in driving innovation in targeting and optimization; application of new analytical tools and techniques (e.g. Machine Learning); and adoption of new data sources and new platforms (e.g. Hadoop)
Key Accountabilities
• Strategy and Plan: Lead the development and ongoing management of the analytical strategies that align to Board approved Purpose, Values, Risk Appetite and Policies as it pertains to new account acquisition activities. Provide clear direction on strategic goals, translating and prioritising them into business and performance measures. Lead short, medium, and long term planning.
• Leadership and Execution: Lead, manage and organise the Strategic Analytics Acquisitions analysis function to execute upon the Barclaycard US Strategic Analytics and overall business strategies. Be accountable to the Head of BCUS Strategic Analytics & Data Strategy, the BCUS Head of Customer Experience & Strategic Analytics, and / or other relevant business Heads for quality and control of all services provided to them. Ensure stakeholder needs are met by:
◦ Leading a team of ~20-30 professionals responsible for delivering a world-class array of program targeting, customer insights & segmentation, and other Barclaycard Risk/Reward investment & decisioning analytical solutions related to new prospeects, specifically:
◦ Act as the primary driver of analytics strategy and execution for our Branded Products business, engaging with the Branded Products & Partnership Teams to set and manage that agenda for analytical delivery in accordance with their overall business strategy.
◦ Drive breakthrough analytics/innovation to support growth agenda/ ensure control / identify new opportunities
◦ Engage effectively with cross-functional Stakeholders (e.g. Finance, Risk, Marketing, and Model Governance teams) to drive growth and innovation agenda
◦ Assist Head of Strategic Analytics and Barclaycard US CEO with analysis and insight in key strategic conversations related to Growth, Financials, Risk and Regulatory Requirements
◦ Train, mentor and manage the team to deliver excellence in delivery coupled with high employee engagement scores
◦ Acting as a collaborative and innovative leader beyond Barclaycard US into other areas of Barclays - forming alliances with analytical areas globally and across business lines to share best practices and partner on globally-leading analytical capabilities.
• System of Internal Control: Design and implement an effective system of controls. This should include a clear organisation structure, formal system of delegations of authority and accountability and a framework of supervision for ensuring:
◦ The Barclays Policies are implemented and consistently applied.
◦ All Principal and Key Risks arising from the above activities are proactively identified, assessed, controlled, reported, managed and contingency plans are developed as appropriate.
◦ Provide assurance that the Barclaycard US system of internal control is operating as designed and effectively manages all Principal and Key risk types in accordance with Barclays Policies.
• People and Organisation: Lead, manage and develop team resources in the most effective and efficient manner to execute the Barclaycard US Plan, including:
