Description
Leads all stress testing activities for the business finance teams across CMB and GBM. Works with Business, Finance and Risk colleagues to develop projections, drive analysis of results, and deliver high quality input to stress testing processes. Coordinates with both local and global central teams across CCAR, DFAST and PRA stress tests for both lines of business. Supports the business in leveraging the insights from stress testing to improve business profitability. Impact on the Business
• Manage relationship with key customers and stakeholders
• Own all aspects of GBM and CMB contributions to stress testing with respect to balance sheet and NIR including developing the projections and supporting through the review and challenge process.
• Provide critical review of results, ensuring consistency within and across the two businesses.
• Coordinate with Central teams globally and locally on all aspects of stress testing, specifically the review and challenge process.
• Provide challenge to downstream processes as they impact the business results – particularly from ALCM, Regulatory Reporting and Wholesale Risk.
• Lead remediation efforts on all identified model issues and continue to enhance the robustness of the approach – whether that be statistical modelling or analytical approach.
• Continually drive efficiencies both within ‘owned’ processes and by influencing the broader finance and risk communities.
• Deputize for GBM & CMB CFO on stress-testing related issues as and when required.
• Drive ‘industrialization’ of stress testing process and seek out opportunities to work across business and finance to embed into BAU activities (ALCO support, RMC materials, etc)
Customers / Stakeholders
• Respond to requests and inquiries from senior management, central stress testing teams, BRCM, Audit, IMR and MRG, all both globally where relevant and locally.
• Provide regular analysis and reports as well as analysis to support specific inquiries.
Leadership & Teamwork
• Build and lead a strong, dynamic team that both delivers a high quality product for stress testing and supports the individuals team members in their career development.
• Partner with relevant areas in Business, Finance and Risk outside of direct team.
• Leverage relationships with key stakeholders to influence broader stress testing processes and policies.
• Create and deliver presentations of analysis, trends, metrics and results. Support presentations with relevant analysis, assumptions, calculations and conclusions.
• Partner with the Central CCAR team on all relevant matters.
• Partner with Risk and RWA teams to understand in depth the stressed results from the Risk and Capital perspective.
• Partner with the Credit & Lending team (primarily) to link stressed results to business strategy.
• Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.
Operational Effectiveness & Control
• Maintain HSBC internal control standards, implement and observe Group Compliance Policy and maintain awareness of operational risk and minimize the likelihood of it occurring.
• Monitoring and ensuring compliance with HNAH and Group capital planning and all other policies.
• To implement the Group compliance policy locally by containing compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Global Business Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources and training, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators.
Major Challenges
• Continually rising bar in terms of expectations from the regulator for organizational stress testing capababilities
• Compressed deliverable cycles with tight deadlines that are often non-negotiable
• Managing through the matrix and influencing across fairly senior levels within the business, Finance and Risk
Management of Risk
• Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.
• Must ensure analysis reflects appropriate contents and articulates any know risks inherent in the model
• For formal models ensure appropriate documentation and controls are maintained, adherence to model risk standards.
Observation of Internal Controls
• Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
Qualifications
• Strong management, interpersonal relationship management, analytical, project management, presentation and verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to influence in a matrix organization.
• Commercial Banking and/or Global Banking and Markets experience and product knowledge a significant asset
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, mathematics, statistics, business management, related field or equivalent experience. MBA preferred.
• Previous CCAR leadership experience preferred.
• Knowledge of financial analysis, modeling, systems and reporting preferred.
• Proficiency with personal computers and pertinent mainframe systems and software packages. Advanced spreadsheet and database knowledge preferred.
• Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and to drive results through prioritization.
