Job Summary:
As the Assistant Director, Advanced Analytics in Liberty Mutual Personal Insurance Finance, you will provide highly technical and analytical assessments of business issues to senior management and drive the implementation of analytic solutions to generate business value. In this role, you will leverage primary data, advanced quantitative modeling and financial analysis to optimize operational decision making, systems and processes towards maximum economic efficiency. You will be a thought leader and innovator, capable of seeing the big picture and comfortable with details, and an effective communicator of sophisticated technical ideas to a non-technical audience.
Responsibilities:
• Maintain a high level of organizational and operational awareness; independently seek out opportunities to generate incremental business value.
• Maintain a high level of awareness on industry best practices, new technologies and technical advances facilitating decision sciences and systems engineering; provide recommendations on tools and techniques.
• Identify and synthesize primary finance operations data, such as billing and payments for analysis relevant to research question.
• Design and manage experiments and pilots to test hypothesis or generate test and control observation data.
• Articulate and apply appropriate statistical methodology such as binary choice, other generalized linear and non-parametric models or machine learning algorithms.
• Articulate and apply appropriate financial analytical methods such internal rate of return, net-present value, volume-profit frontier or real options.
• Build advanced tools and queries to operationalize analysis and recommendations.
• Lead cross-functional teams to implement analytic projects from conception to conclusion; Become a subject matter expert on Finance operations data and play instrumental roles in supporting strategic initiatives.
• Develop and deliver PowerPoint presentations and internal written memos succinctly and effectively communicating technical ideas to non-technical sr. management audiences.
• Provide peer review, mentorship and technical guidance to more junior research analysts.
Qualifications:
• Competencies typically acquired through a Ph.D. degree (in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Actuarial Science, Operational Research, Systems Engineering, Decision Sciences, Statistics, Financial Engineering or other quantitative discipline required) and 2 years of relevant experience, a Master’s degree (scientific field of study) and 4 years of relevant experience or may be acquired through a Bachelor’s degree (scientific field of study) and 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Broad knowledge of predictive analytic techniques and statistical diagnostics of models. Expert knowledge of predictive toolset; reflects as expert resource for tool development.
• Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely.
• Ability to establish and build relationships within and outside the organization.
• Ability to give effective training and presentations to peers and less senior team members.
• Has a value-driven perspective with regard to understanding of work context and impact.
• Expert proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, analytical software packages (e.g., SAS, R, Python) and data manipulation (SQL) are desired.
• Exceptional leadership, analytical, decision making, and organization skills are highly desired.
